Legal & General (L&G) is a leading UK financial services group and major global investor. We have been safeguarding people's financial futures since 1836, and strive to build a better society, while improving the lives of our customers and creating value for shareholders. We are one of the world's largest asset managers and provide powerful asset origination capabilities. Together, these underpin our retirement and protection solutions: we are an international player in pension risk transfer, in UK and US life insurance, and in UK workplace pensions and retirement income. Our Group Functions provide the services that all areas of the business need. This requires a talented and diverse team behind the scenes, who enable everyone at L&G to do what they do best. Joining us means helping to improve the lives of our customers and contributing to the success of the business every day.
We are recruiting for an ALM Manager to join us to support the Group Asset Liability Management (ALM) team across all aspects of developing, embedding and executing the Group's ALM Framework. We are offering a competitive base salary, great benefits and the opportunity to support work that directly contributes to L&G's business strategy. The Group ALM team provides first line oversight of how market risks are managed across the L&G Group. In particular, you will be developing investment and risk management strategies in alignment with the Group's strategic objectives and internal risk appetites and within the context of the evolving macroeconomic and regulatory environment. This is a hybrid working opportunity, that will allow you to split your working week between your home and our London Office, to find a work-life balance that works for you.
What you will be doing:
- Working closely with the Business Units to understand their market risk exposures across SII, IFRS and liquidity.
- Identifying inefficiencies/opportunities for optimisation across the balance of assets and financial risks.
- Developing and embedding investment and risk management strategies and frameworks within Group/divisional ALM activity.
- Ensuring a strong connection between macroeconomic environment and the implications for efficient Group ALM; in particular, through proposing appropriate scenario testing and identifying rebalancing opportunities to protect against downside risk and enhance value.
- Managing and developing the efficient production of high-quality exec/board MI, providing meaningful insight to support the decision making of senior management.
- Supporting the Head of Group ALM to ensure that key proposals and matters for discussion are brought to the Group Asset and Liability Committee, which is chaired by Group CFO and attended by key members of the senior management team.
- Developing systems for improving the efficiency and sophistication of the Group's ALM Framework.
- Working closely with the 2nd line Group Risk Team to ensure consistency of understanding and that all proposals have the appropriate level of challenge and oversight.
Qualifications
Who we are looking for:
- Investment professional, Qualified actuary or accountant with relevant investment/ALM experience.
- Strong understanding of investments, hedging and capital markets.
- Strong understanding of the elements of Solvency II and IFRS that relate to ALM (including the Matching Adjustment and capital requirements).
- Ability to understand the implications of market and non-market events across different metrics (IFRS, Solvency II, liquidity).
- Ability to create and deliver clear and concise written documentation or reports.
- Ability to review technical data, analyse it and provide a succinct summary.
- Ability to work with and develop code-based tools e.g. Python, R etc.
- Experience of management and senior stakeholder communication is desirable.
Whatever your role, we reward performance and behaviour with a package that looks after all the things that are important to you. Here are some of the benefits we offer:
- The opportunity to participate in our annual, performance-related bonus plan and valuable share schemes.
- Generous pension contribution.
- Life assurance.
- Healthcare Plan.
- 27 days holiday, plus public holidays. There is also the option to buy and sell holiday.
- Competitive family leave.
- Participate in our electric car scheme, which offers employees the option to hire a brand-new electric car through tax efficient salary sacrifice (permanent employees only).
- There are many discounts we offer – both for our own products and at a range of high street stores and online.
In 2023, some of our workspaces were redesigned. Our offices are great spaces to connect and collaborate and have your wellbeing at the heart.
At L&G, we believe it's possible to generate positive returns today while helping to build a better future for all. If you join us, you will be part of a welcoming, inclusive culture, with opportunities to collaborate with people of diverse backgrounds, views, and experiences. Guided by leaders with integrity who care about your future and wellbeing. Empowered through initiatives which support people to develop their careers and excel. We care passionately about outcomes rather than attendance and are therefore open to discussing all kinds of flexible working options including part-time, term-time and job shares. Although some roles have limited flexibility due to customer demand, we accommodate requests when we can. It doesn't matter if you don't meet every single criterion in this advert. Instead, think about what you excel at and what else you can bring in terms of strengths, potential and connection to our purpose.
