Company Description

Legal & General (L&G) is a leading UK financial services group and major global investor. We’ve been safeguarding people’s financial futures since 1836, and strive to build a better society, while improving the lives of our customers and creating value for shareholders. We are one of the world’s largest asset managers and provide powerful asset origination capabilities.

Who we are

Institutional Retirement is the only insurer to have been operating continuously in the UK market from our entrance in 1987 to the present day. Our UK retirement annuity book stands at an estimated 86.1 billion at 31 December 2023. Across our retail and institutional retirement businesses, we look after more than 1 million customers, around c.700,000 of whom are institutional customers who have had their retirement benefits secured with us.

Job Description

We’re looking for a nearly or newly qualified actuary to join our Investment Reporting Team as a Senior Actuarial Analyst. The Investment Reporting Team (IRT), which sits within our Institutional Retirement division, is responsible for asset cashflow projections, discount rate methodology and calculations under both IFRS and Solvency II.

As a Senior Actuarial Analyst, you’ll run several key IRT processes, provide technical analysis of results, and may present your findings to the business. You’ll also support modelling and process development to help enhance our investment reporting capabilities. This is a hybrid working opportunity which will allow you to split your week between your home and the office, so you can find a work-life balance that works for you.

What you'll be doing:

  • Proactively managing your workstream to meet deadlines and ensure processes run smoothly and efficiently across the team and wider business, supported by clear communication with upstream and downstream teams.
  • Developing deep expertise in your field and becoming a subject matter expert, while building a strong working knowledge of the Investment Reporting models to support results analysis, issue resolution and future enhancements.
  • Proposing innovative solutions to new challenges, considering the impact on upstream and downstream teams and processes, as well as IRT.
  • Leading the development, implementation and maintenance of the team’s reporting systems and processes, ensuring they are robust, risks are assessed and appropriate checks and controls are in place.
  • Communicating monthly results analysis clearly to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Applying a strong risk and control mindset by proactively identifying control weaknesses and ensuring they are resolved quickly, sustainably and effectively.
  • Ensuring customers are treated fairly in line with Legal & General’s Customer Experience and TCF policies.
  • Sharing knowledge and coaching newer team members.

Who we're looking for:

  • Nearly or newly qualified actuary, under the IFoA or equivalent, ideally with experience in IFRS, Solvency II and/or assets.
  • Experience in financial modelling, with strong modelling knowledge, ideally using R.
  • Understanding of asset types commonly held by insurers and related cashflow projection methodologies.
  • Knowledge of IFRS and Solvency II discount rate calculation and reporting.
  • Awareness of risk and regulatory requirements across the UK finance sector.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to adapt messaging for different audiences.
  • Ability to lead and deliver process improvements.
  • Collaborative team player who can work independently while contributing effectively to shared team goals.

Whatever your role, we reward performance and behaviour with a package that looks after all the things that are important to you. Here are some of the benefits we offer:

  • The opportunity to participate in our annual, performance-related bonus plan and valuable share schemes.
  • Generous pension contribution.
  • Life assurance.
  • Healthcare Plan.
  • At least 25 days holiday, plus public holidays, 26 days after 2 years’ service. There’s also the option to buy and sell holiday.
  • Competitive family leave.
  • Participate in our electric car scheme, which offers employees the option to hire a brand-new electric car through tax efficient salary sacrifice.
  • There are many discounts we offer – both for our own products and at a range of high street stores and online.
  • We’re creating net-zero carbon workplaces by 2030 by investing in our sustainable, modern offices across the UK, all designed to bring people together and elevate the in-person experience.

Additional Information

At L&G, we believe it's possible to generate positive returns today while helping to build a better future for all. Guided by leaders with integrity who care about your future and wellbeing. Empowered through initiatives which support people to develop their careers and excel.

We care passionately about outcomes rather than attendance and are therefore open to discussing all kinds of flexible working options including part-time and job shares.
