Job Description
We are currently looking to hire a Quantitative Index and ETF Strategist to join L&G Asset Management. The Quantitative Index and ETF Strategist will be responsible for the development of systematic rules-based equity and fixed income strategies underlying our pooled fund offering (including ETFs). The role is specifically designed to help support the growing business in developing new and innovative systematic investment strategies for our global client base. The role involves building equity screens using fundamental, ESG and alternative data. The initial area of focus is portfolio construction using factor-based (smart beta) investing techniques and financial modelling. The role involves working collaboratively with various Investment teams and other stakeholders across the organization.
The post holder will be an experienced and credible quantitative expert with a proven track record in managing the full lifecycle of a systematic investment strategy that covers idea origination, investment strategy design and underlying index development. You will be assisting in the development of systematic rules-based equity and fixed income strategies.
What you will be doing:
- Designing and developing investment strategies underlying our ETFs and other in-house solutions.
- Being the point of contact for technical and specific client queries from client relationship managers, distribution and clients leveraging specialists in the team if required. Attend client meetings and pitches as required.
- Creating standard presentations and RFP content to support client specific queries and lead non-standard presentation and RFP production for new custom indices.
- Working with the Marketing team (in conjunction with the investment and distribution teams) to develop marketing materials for index funds and services.
- Leading Quantitative and Qualitative research initiatives – leverage programming/database skills to investigate a diverse range of data sources. Be able to communicate complex analysis and sophisticated ideas to other team members.
- Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of the current investment market and economic issues from an index and benchmark perspective.
- Assisting in carrying out competitor analysis of markets and product offerings.
- Liaising with the fund management teams to support the launch of the investment strategies with methodology documentation and fund reviews.
Qualifications
- Knowledge and understanding of how to evaluate an index and have previously constructed, reviewed or evaluated index/systematic strategies, and/or previous experience in evaluating benchmarks.
- Experience with optimisation techniques e.g. minimising tracking error, incorporating constraints, etc.
- Comfortable with large datasets and data exploration in diverse fields such as financial and alternative data (structured or unstructured), ESG data.
- Proven knowledge of Python or demonstrable experience with another coding language is highly advantageous, including database languages like SQL.
- A strong intellect with sufficient technical and investment knowledge to be able to win the confidence of stakeholders and various investment teams.
- Presenting to clients and participating in pitches.
- Take ownership of day-to-day work and work with the various parts of the index team.
- Previous experience in ETF is a plus.
