We are recruiting for an Index & ETF Investment Specialist to play a hybrid role, deeply technical in nature, yet firmly embedded within the commercial engine of L&G. This role will support the development and enhancement of in‑house business development and sales‑enablement tools that help automate and industrialise the production of decks, competitor analysis, market insights and other high‑impact materials across the full Index and ETF range. Alongside this, the role will increasingly contribute to pipeline generation, commercial activity, and business growth in partnership with Distribution and other client‑facing teams. The role will work closely with Portfolio Management, Distribution, Marketing, Product and Compliance. The role will make a visible impact on product research, positioning, and the commercial success of the Index & ETF franchise. This varied role will utilise strong programming skills, automating processes, solving problems, and building internal relationships to actively contribute to the commercial growth of the business.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Developing and enhancing in-house business development and sales‑enablement tools that support distribution and investments
  • Automating processes and proactively solving issues for internal stakeholders
  • Analysing and attributing portfolio performance
  • Automating analyses of portfolio breakdowns, index construction, index changes, and portfolio transitions
  • Automating the production of regular fund holding, attribution, and risk reports
  • Participating in ad-hoc quantitative and qualitative research, and preparing materials for investment reports and product positioning
  • Supporting Distribution and Investment Specialists with client servicing, including responding to client requests, preparing materials for client and consultant presentations, and contributing to new business pitches
  • Over time, taking on a more externally-facing support role, helping to generate pipeline, supporting sales conversations, and contributing to new business development across the Index & ETF platform
  • Acting as an embedded technical partner to Distribution, ensuring the team can scale its commercial activity with high‑quality, data‑driven materials and insights

Who we’re looking for:

  • Proven knowledge of Python including its libraries such as pandas and NumPy
  • Understanding of financial markets, with a genuine interest in developing expertise within the Index and ETF ecosystem
  • Broad understanding of asset classes, with a focus on index strategies preferred
  • Demonstrating strong programming capability, including Python and VBA, with the ability to build new functionality and debug complex issues across the Microsoft stack
  • Utilising development tools and frameworks, including GitHub for version control and pipelines, with exposure to Flask, JavaScript and HTML/CSS advantageous
  • Applying financial and investment knowledge, with experience in investment management, index strategies or benchmarks strongly preferred
  • Developing and enhancing processes to improve efficiency and support client requests, using creative problem‑solving to design effective solutions
  • Communicating and collaborating effectively with Distribution and commercial teams, while proactively managing multiple priorities in a high‑pressure environment

Benefits:

  • The opportunity to participate in our annual, performance‑related bonus plan and valuable share schemes
  • Generous pension contribution
  • Life assurance
  • Healthcare Plan (permanent employees only)
  • At least 25 days holiday, plus public holidays, 26 days after 2 years’ service. There’s also the option to buy and sell holiday
  • Competitive family leave
  • Participate in our electric car scheme, which offers employees the option to hire a brand‑new electric car through tax efficient salary sacrifice (permanent employees only)
  • There are many discounts we offer – both for our own products and at a range of high street stores and online
  • We’re creating net‑zero carbon workplaces by 2030 by investing in our sustainable, modern offices across the UK, all designed to bring people together and elevate the in‑person experience
