About Legal 500: Legal 500 was founded by John Pritchard in 1987 as the original clients’ guide to law firms, the first of its kind. It is now a data-driven, AI-optimised research platform which benchmarks, informs and connects providers and users of legal services in over 100 countries worldwide. Our research and data are trusted and relied upon by corporate clients globally as an essential part of the process, both of instructing law firms with new mandates, and when reviewing existing mandates or panels. We exist to empower both buyers and sellers in the international legal marketplace to make better decisions and have improved outcomes for their organisations.

About the role: Research analysts are at the centre of our interaction with firms and the market, conducting comprehensive research into the legal market to benchmark law firms. The role involves interviewing lawyers and assessing quantitative and qualitative data to produce accurate rankings and insightful editorial content. We are looking for people who have an excellent command of spoken and written English and must be able to manage time effectively and work to deadlines. Knowledge of the legal sector is preferable but not essential. Much of the law covered by the Legal 500 guides around the world is commercial so an interest in business and the City would be helpful.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Gathering details of law firms' recent work, through the collection of written submissions and interviews with senior-level lawyers.
  • Analysing quantitative and qualitative data to accurately assess and benchmark firms by practice area and country.
  • Applying rankings methodology consistently and accurately.
  • Maintaining live documents of ranking notes documenting decisions made for firms and individual lawyers and the rationale, applying the methodology consistently.
  • Writing comprehensive, in-depth analysis of the leading law firms in certain key practice areas.
  • Building rapport/relationship with law firms at BD and partner level.
  • Owning your own workload in order to meet staggered and final deadlines for interviews, rankings and editorials.

What we’re looking for:

  • Professional and confident approach to speaking with external senior decision-makers at major law firms.
  • Ability to build relationships across the business with internal stakeholders.
  • Highly organised with exceptional planning skills and the ability to manage work to deadline.
