The role of Recreation Assistant is a great position to be involved in a full range of leisure activities. It offers rewarding opportunities through customer interaction, meeting new people, and engaging in diverse activities. Recreation Assistants will perform duties at both wet and dry sites. The primary objectives are:

  • To ensure the safety and enjoyment of all users of the Leisure Centre.
  • To assist in managing daily activities of the Centre.

The main responsibilities include:

  • Guiding, caring for, and assisting Leisure Centre customers.
  • Fostering a friendly and efficient environment for users.
  • Working as part of a team to meet the Centre\’s objectives and usage targets.
  • Innovating ideas to increase Centre usage.
  • Maintaining high standards of cleanliness and comfort of all facilities.
  • Assisting the Duty Manager with security and safety, including patrolling and equipment safety.
  • Being aware of and implementing health and safety procedures, reporting unsafe practices.
  • Ensuring all areas are safe and secure when not in use.
  • Covering for other staff members as needed.
  • Performing any additional duties to support the Centre\’s operations.
  • Representing the Leisure Centre positively, including wearing the provided uniform during shifts.

Some positions may require a DBS Disclosure, especially if classified as a regulated post. If not already held, a DBS check will be necessary.

The candidate should have a good general education and a desire to achieve a leisure management qualification. Preferred qualifications include a current first aid certificate and RLSS National Pool Lifeguard Qualification.

Key qualities include the ability to gain respect from clients and colleagues, effective communication skills, flexibility to work additional hours, customer-focused approach, teamwork, and initiative in developing the role.
