Each year, LeftCoast hosts a programme of six Supper Clubs in different locations across Blackpool. These events use food as a starting point for connection, bringing people together to explore their relationship to place, community and the changing seasons. Alongside sharing a meal, each Supper Club includes a creative activity designed to spark conversation and explore a theme that is relevant to the community hosting the event.

We are looking to commission a socially engaged photographer to document our Supper Clubs over the next year. This role would suit a photographer who is genuinely interested in people and communities, and who feels comfortable working in participatory, community‐led environments. We require minimal editing and, where possible, prefer raw or lightly touched files.

How to Apply

To apply, please send the following through to our Digital Communications Coordinator:

  • A portfolio of work (at least 7 socially‐engaged photographs) for an arts, cultural or community‐focused organisation
  • Your CV as well as a written statement of no more than 500 words outlining why you are a strong fit for this role, including relevant previous experience
  • Your location (regional photographers may be prioritised)

Deadline for applications: 9th February 2026, 12pm (noon)

Photographer Brief

The photographer will work closely with the LeftCoast team to build relationships with participants and community partners. Establishing trust at each event is essential, enabling attendees to feel comfortable with having their photograph taken, and allowing the photographer to work confidently throughout the Supper Club. The photographer will be expected to take appropriate precautions to gain consent (both written and verbal) and to work fully in line with our safeguarding and ethical policies, ensuring that all imagery can be used safely and responsively by our Communications team.

We are looking for someone who is willing to embed themselves in the Supper Club programme to develop a strong understanding of its aims and atmosphere. This includes capturing scene‐setting imagery, documenting the food itself, and photographing people in conversation, creative activity and moments of connection. As well as recording what is happening, the photographer should be able to convey the mood, tone and scale of each event through their images.

Following each Supper Club, the photographer will be required to provide a selection of images (65 to 70) normally within a week. These photographs will be used widely across our social media channels, website, marketing materials, press activity and shared with project partners. As we often work to tight external communications deadlines, the commissioned photographer will need to be able to respond to quick turnarounds when submitting work. Appropriate credits will always be applied.

The photographer will be contacted ahead of each Supper Club to confirm availability. While we aim to provide as much notice as possible, our work is process‐led and shaped by communities, which means that some events may be confirmed at shorter notice.

Budget

This commission is offered at £150 per Supper Club (each including a two‐hour photography session, reasonably oriented travel, and editing time). As previously stated, we require minimal editing and, where possible, prefer raw or lightly touched files.
