Job Description Payroll Senior Manager Location: London / North West London Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience Contract: Permanent, Full-Time Sector: Accountancy Practice / Professional Services An ambitious and rapidly growing Chartered Accountancy and outsourcing group is looking for an experienced Payroll Senior Manager to lead, develop and grow its UK payroll function. This is a senior, hands-on leadership role for an experienced payroll professional who can combine strong technical knowledge with team management, client service and commercial responsibility. The successful candidate will already be managing a payroll team and will have extensive experience delivering accurate UK payroll services across a varied client portfolio. The Role You will take responsibility for the day-to-day management and continued development of the payroll function, including: Managing weekly, monthly and annual UK payrolls across a varied client portfolio. Overseeing starters, leavers, SSP, SMP, SPP and other statutory payroll requirements. Leading and developing both UK and offshore payroll team members. Reviewing payroll output to ensure accuracy, compliance and timely delivery. Managing new client onboarding and payroll implementation. Establishing effective controls, review procedures and processes. Managing client SLAs and ensuring consistently high service standards. Overseeing workplace pension schemes and auto-enrolment requirements. Liaising with HMRC, pension providers and other statutory bodies. Managing payroll migrations, system implementations and transformation projects. Developing strong relationships with clients, directors and internal teams. Identifying opportunities to cross-sell and expand services to existing clients. Ensuring clients are billed promptly and accurately. Taking commercial responsibility for the performance and growth of the payroll service. Keeping up to date with payroll legislation and technical developments. Developing and improving payroll systems, processes and efficiencies. About You We are looking for an established payroll professional with: Significant experience managing UK payroll within an accountancy practice, bureau or outsourced payroll environment. Strong technical knowledge of UK payroll legislation. Experience managing high-volume and multiple-client payrolls. Strong knowledge of pensions and auto-enrolment. Previous experience leading and developing a payroll team. Experience managing client relationships at a senior level. Strong payroll systems knowledge, ideally including BrightPay, PayCircle, Employment Hero / KeyPay or similar. Experience implementing controls and improving payroll processes. Experience onboarding and migrating payroll clients. Confidence dealing with HMRC, pension providers and other external bodies. Strong commercial awareness and an understanding of payroll profitability. The ability to identify business development and growth opportunities. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
