The role combines traditional risk activities—including incident management, risk assessments, governance and reporting—with analytical capabilities to identify trends, improve risk data quality, develop management information and support informed decision-making. As Risk Oversight Partner you will play a key part in enhancing the effectiveness, efficiency and maturity of the organisation's operational risk management capability through the development of the GRC platform and continuous improvement initiatives.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Support the maintenance and continuous improvement of the enterprise risk management framework in line with regulatory expectations
  • Assist business areas in identifying, assessing and documenting risks
  • Support the development and enhancement of the Society’s risk management systems and data capabilities
  • Ensure data quality, integrity, and auditability of risk information
  • Set the standards and oversee the risk event framework, ensuring timely identification, investigation, and resolution of incidents
  • Ensure root cause analysis is robust and that lessons learned are embedded across the business
  • Produce and review high-quality, accurate, and timely risk MI for senior management, and governance committees
  • Monitor key risk indicators (KRIs) and emerging risk themes
  • Oversee RCSA standards, procedures and quality, in line with the RMF
  • Provide independent oversight, challenge, and review of first line risk management activities
  • Escalate material risks and control weaknesses through appropriate governance channels
  • Review and challenge first line outputs including risk and control self-assessments (RCSAs), control testing results, and risk registers
  • Assess the effectiveness of controls and ensure consistency with risk appetite
  • Provide second line oversight of control testing, including review, challenge, and independent re-performance where required
  • Track remediation actions and ensure timely closure of control deficiencies
  • Act as a trusted advisor to all business areas on risk management practices
  • Promote a strong risk culture and support the embedding of risk awareness across the organization, delivering training and facilitating workshops as required

What We're Looking For

  • Demonstrable experience gained within a UK building society, retail bank, regulated financial services organisation, or a similar regulated environment.
  • Sound understanding of FCA and PRA regulatory frameworks.
  • Practical experience of applying RCSA, control effectiveness and risk event management frameworks in a first-line or second-line risk role, including the use of Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) systems.
  • Experience of maintaining, developing and enhancing business systems and tools is desirable.
