The Mayor's Office is responsible for supporting the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan. Supporting the Mayor, Deputy Mayors and lead advisors such as the Chief Digital Officer and Night Czar, the Mayor’s Office is organised into four small units: Communications, Mayoral Operations, Policy and Delivery, Political and Public Affairs.

About the Team

Jointly led by Natan Doron, Mayoral Head of Policy and Jamilla Hinds-Brough, Mayoral Head of Delivery. The Mayor’s Policy and Delivery Unit (MPDU) brings together the Senior Advisors to the Deputy Mayors to oversee and drive delivery of the Mayor’s manifesto across portfolios, with a particular focus on the Mayor’s five priorities to: keep Londoners safe, get London’s economy back on its feet, ensure opportunities for young people, deliver a green new deal and build more affordable homes. The MPDU oversees a number of groups tasked with implementing the Mayor’s manifesto commitments and works to ensure policy development is joined-up and coordinated across the GLA family. They provide steers on cross-cutting policy and delivery work, and lead the clearance of policy reports and documents.

About the Role

Provide high level strategic support and advice and stakeholder management to the Deputy Mayor, Culture and Creative Industries by:

  • Monitoring relevant policy developments to co-ordinate the input and response of the Deputy Mayor, Culture and Creative Industries and ensure the Mayoralty is able to exploit opportunities and is aware of risks.
  • Delivering project management on behalf of the Deputy Mayor, Culture and Creative Industries including projects that span different teams and areas of work in the GLA.
  • Supporting the effective running of the Deputy Mayor’s office, including working with the Executive Assistant to ensure effective diary and inbox management.
  • Contributing to, and drafting as necessary reports, briefings, presentations, speeches and statements for the Deputy Mayor.
  • Deputising for the Deputy Mayor Culture and Creative Industries as appropriate in internal and external forums to ensure the Mayor’s position and influence is fully recognised and applied to ensure the best outcomes for London.

This role is based at City Hall, in the Royal Docks (Kamal Chunchie Way, London, E16 1ZE).

What Your Day Will Look Like

  • Engaging with the Deputy Mayor, including attendance at some of their meetings and events, and preparing material to support those engagements.
  • Engaging with the Heads of Policy and Delivery and colleagues in the wider Mayor’s Office, and responding to requests for information, expertise or ideas.
  • Engaging with colleagues in Culture and Creative Industries and others Unit.
  • Contributing to and steering policy content, briefings and public comms material.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

To be considered for the role you must meet the following essential criteria:

  • Significant experience of working in a sensitive political environment at a senior level and engaging with a wide range of stakeholders and partners to deliver large-scale strategic programmes.
  • An in-depth knowledge of the Deputy Mayor’s policy area(s) gained within a high-performance team.
  • Extensive and high-level strategic experience within project and/or programme management.
  • Experience of strategy and programme development, delivery and oversight of implementation.
  • A proven track record of success at a senior level.
