Corporate Resources and Business Improvement The Corporate Resources and Business Improvement directorate is led by Dianne Tranmer. It is responsible for: People Function, Facilities Management, Digital Experience Unit, Technology Group, Information Governance, Executive Support Team, and leadership of all shared services across the GLA Group. About The Team This role sits within the User Centred Design team, with a current focus on the Data for London programme. The UCD team brings together specialisms including digital engagement, service design, user research, business analysis, digital performance analysis, content design, and interaction design. These specialisms work in harmony with a shared mission to make all products and services as inclusive, accessible, and user-centric as possible. The Mayor of London\’s Data for London Board has been established to improve the flow and usage of data to serve citizens, solve city challenges, and promote productivity—putting data into the hands of those who can make a positive difference for London. The Board includes data leaders from public, private, and civil society sectors, with expertise in data science, ethics, smart cities, cybersecurity, public engagement, and data journalism. Within the GLA, the Data for London team is working to improve the data ecosystem in London, including delivering a rebuild of the London Datastore, which serves 2 million users and contains 18,000 data files. The team has also released the Data for London Library, a searchable platform that consolidates metadata from various London organizations, facilitating easier data sharing and discovery. The next phase will focus on designing products that simplify data sharing and access management, enhancing city-wide data use to benefit Londoners. About The Role The Interaction Designer, as a senior practitioner, will lead the design and prototyping of user interfaces that meet user needs and business requirements, creating engaging and intuitive digital experiences. Your work will ensure users can achieve their goals and that services support GLA policy objectives. This involves creating prototypes for new or improved digital products and content across channels managed by the Digital Experience Unit or other GLA units. You will support the Data for London team in designing products that facilitate data sharing and use, requiring research and design for diverse stakeholders and complex systems. Principal accountabilities Design prototypes for new or improved services, using strong visual design skills to gather user feedback. Set design direction and promote best practices within teams, establishing and sharing pattern libraries. Collaborate with teams to turn user stories into functional, engaging designs that maximize value. Use data and user feedback to refine designs through testing. Advocate for user needs, ensuring accessibility and inclusivity. Person specification Technical Requirements/Qualifications Candidates must demonstrate: Expertise in designing and testing complex user interfaces with advanced prototyping skills. Ability to use data, research, and testing feedback for user-centered design. Strong communication skills for managing stakeholders and fostering collaboration. Knowledge of accessible and inclusive design principles. Experience in agile practices, design systems, and government or similar product design. The role is based at London Fire Brigade Head Office (Union Street SE1 0LL).
