Leeds University Union (LUU) is a charity that helps over 38,000 students love their time at Leeds. Located at the heart of campus, the Union is a space to meet people, make new friends and get involved.

About the role:

Are you an experienced Learning & Development professional passionate about fostering an inclusive, high‑performing workplace culture? Leeds University Union (LUU) is looking for a Learning and Engagement Lead to shape and drive our integrated learning, development, engagement, and inclusion initiatives. In this role, you will lead the end-to-end design and delivery of leadership programmes, overhaul our onboarding journey, manage learning platforms, and support our staff networks and inclusion strategy—all while building sustainable L&D capability across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Learning & Leadership Development: Design, facilitate, and evaluate impactful L&D programmes that build management and leadership capability across teams.
  • Onboarding & Induction: Lead the redesign and centralisation of the organisation-wide induction programme to ensure a consistent, engaging onboarding experience.
  • Systems & Digital Learning: Oversee Learning Management Systems (LMS), support LMS migration projects, create engaging digital content (e.g., Articulate), and use data analytics to measure impact.
  • Inclusion & Staff Engagement: Partner with the Centre of Diversity to drive the inclusion action plan, provide strategic support to Staff Networks, and coordinate student staff/volunteer development.
  • Compliance & Mandatory Training: Ensure organisation-wide completion and reporting for mandatory health, safety, wellbeing, and compliance training.
  • Budget & Team Support: Manage the central L&D budget and funding requests, while collaborating closely with the People & Culture team on day-to-day HR operations.

What we’re looking for:

Essential:

  • Qualifications: CIPD Level 5 (or equivalent L&D/HR qualification).
  • Experience: Proven track record in end-to-end L&D design and delivery (management development, onboarding, compliance).
  • HR Foundation: Solid generalist HR understanding across the employee lifecycle to support broader People & Culture operations.
  • Digital & Systems: Hands‑on experience managing LMS platforms and developing digital learning content using authoring tools.
  • Inclusion Focus: Practical experience supporting Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) initiatives and staff networks.
  • Facilitation & Communication: Outstanding in‑person and virtual presentation skills, alongside strong project management and stakeholder collaboration abilities.

Desirable:

  • CIPD Level 7 or working towards it.
  • Coaching, facilitation, or instructional design accreditation.
  • Experience with LMS migration or HR system transitions.
  • Experience within Higher Education, Students' Unions, or the third sector.

If you’re looking for a fast‑paced role where you can make a real impact, we’d love to hear from you.

What you get in return:

The benefits you can enjoy include holiday pay, extensive opportunities for learning and further development, NUS TOTUM Card, onsite venue staff discounts, discounted travel card, and discounted gym membership.
