NuclearMedicine are looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic member of staff tojoin our team. The Nuclear Medicinedepartments operate 6 gamma cameras across St James Hospital and LeedsGeneral Infirmary, scanning outpatients, inpatients and paediatrics. Thisbusy department requires an individual with excellent communication skills towork as part of our clinical and administrative team. The applicant shouldhave patient care and accomplished computer skills, a caring and friendlydemeanour, and a keen eye for detail. The post is both challenging andrewarding and is most suited to an individual who can prioritise theirworkload, respond quickly to changing situations and work effectively in abusy environment. An understanding of the basics of the procedures undertakenin Nuclear Medicine and PET CT imaging would be advantageous to answerpatient enquires effectively and efficiently. This is a rotational, full time(37.5 hours a week) position so will involve working at both St James andLeeds General Infirmary.

Main duties of the job

Thisvaried role will involve a number of different clinical and clerical duties.These include;

Cannulatingpatients intravenously prior to imaging and assisting patients to completetheir pre- examination safety sheets.

Assistingstaff with interventional procedures such as injections and adhering toaseptic techniques.

Positioningpatients for examinations.

Generalcleaning, maintenance and care of equipment (including basic fault finding),trouble shooting and reporting of faults.

Stockcontrol.

Clericalduties and data input onto the Radiology Information System (RIS).

Job responsibilities

Escortpatients in and out of the examination rooms.

Assistpatients on and off the examination table and where necessary, use various mobilisation devices in linewith Moving and Handling training.

Communicateeffectively and empathetically with patients and their carers.

Assistwith moving and handling of those patients who are immobile in a manner thatis safe for all concerned and following manual handling guidelines.

Assistand aid registered practitioners or medical staff in the delivery ofminimally invasive procedures.

Toprepare sterile equipment in preparation of any interventional procedures.

Preparedrugs for intravenous administration following appropriate training and inline with department medicine management guidelines under supervision.

Tomaintain high standards of hygiene and cleanliness for patient needs, theequipment and working environment.

Ensuresafe handling of medicines at all times.

Undertakevenous cannulation, in line with the modality specific scheme of work.

Tophysically position the patient for a range of routine examinations, toensure that image quality, patient comfort and patient safety are maintainedat all times whilst taking into account patient limitations. To defer to theradiographer for complex examinations requiring adaptation of standardtechnique.

Toinclude registering the patient, updating patient records, bookings,extraction of work lists and all other associated RIS activities.

Toenter accurate patient and examination data into Radiology InformationSystem.

Monitorstock, operate stock control and order medical equipment, accessories,consumables, linen and pharmacy and order as required.

Dealwith telephone messages in an efficient manner. Report any adverse incidentsto the appropriate line manager in line with the Trust and radiology riskmanagement system.

Basicoperation of the specialised equipment following appropriate training.

Wearpersonal protective equipment when required.

Carefor, check and maintain high standards of cleanliness of clinical equipmentto minimise spread of infection.

Maintaininghigh standards of cleanliness in examination rooms to minimise spread ofinfection.

Ensuresafe disposal of linen and clinical waste from the department.

Qualifications

  • GCSE English and Maths Grade 4 or Functional Skills English and Maths equivalent (Level 2) or level 3qualification in relevant health care related subject.
  • Completion of CARE Certificate mandatory training requirement to complete during first 3 months of employment.
  • Committed to undertake all training requirements for the post
  • Moving and handling training.
