An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Estates Technician with a mechanical background, who will carry out crucial maintenance, fault finding, repairs and installation work on all facilities, plant and equipment throughout the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust Estate. Working on the full range of Estates services equipment, the Mechanical Estates Technician will undertake activities that require problem solving and solution identifying, along with analysis of complex situations to resolve technical issues on multifaceted equipment. You will be primarily based at the St James’s University Hospital site and your work will support the clinical teams and enhance patient experience.
Responsibilities
- Install, maintain, service and repair a full range of estates services and equipment.
- Calibrate and fault‑find on engineering plant and equipment such as ventilation, medical gases, heating systems, water services, pressure systems (steam, etc.), building services controls, standby generators and refrigeration.
- Survey sites, evaluate inspection reports, and carry out maintenance, repairs, improvements and capital works as directed by management, ensuring compliance with Trust safety standards and procedures.
- Plan and organise interruptions and maintenance activities, coordinating the work of other staff and contractors.
- Provide practical training to other staff and evaluate their work.
- Deputise for the Estates Officer on management duties and give technical advice to Estates staff and contractors.
- Participate in out‑of‑hours work as required.
Qualifications
A mechanical background with experience in maintenance and repair of engineering plant and equipment is required. Knowledge of ventilation, medical gases, heating, water services, pressure systems, building services controls, generators and refrigeration is essential. Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose faults and determine solutions is essential.
