The role willprimarily involve running outpatient clinics, assessing and managing patientswith complex retinal and inflammatory eye disease, and contributing totreatment pathways including intravitreal therapy and multidisciplinary carewhere appropriate.Youwill work as part of a large, supportive consultant team within theOphthalmology department, alongside subspecialty colleagues in medical retina,uveitis, vitreoretinal surgery and other ophthalmic disciplines. The postholder will also work closely with specialty doctors, fellows, optometrists,specialist nurses, orthoptists and imaging teams to deliver efficient,high-quality care.Themain focus of the role will be maintaining timely patient access to specialistclinics, supporting established treatment pathways, and helping manage theclinical workload within the service. It is the largest provider of specialistOphthalmology services in the Yorkshire region and provides a specialistophthalmology service for patients in Leeds, Yorkshire and from across thenorth of England. The Eye Department is based at St James University Hospital,Leeds with Ophthalmology Services also held at Seacroft Hospital and WharfedaleHospital. There are 29 consultants in the wider Ophthalmology Department. The role includes deliveringspecialist interventions such as intravitreal injections, retinal lasertreatments and immunomodulatory therapy management, offering a varied andclinically rewarding workload.Workin a Major Regional Referral CentreLeedsTeaching Hospitals NHS Trust provides tertiary-level ophthalmology services topatients across West Yorkshire and beyond, meaning the successful candidatewill be involved in the management of complex cases referred from across theregion. The role also contributes to urgent pathways for sight-threateningretinal and inflammatory conditions, working closely with acute ophthalmologyservices.CollaborativeMultidisciplinary EnvironmentYouwill work as part of a large and supportive consultant team, alongsidesubspecialists in medical retina, vitreoretinal surgery, glaucoma, cornea anduveitis.
