SPRinT Education Fellow - General Paeds & Neonates
An exciting opportunity for a paediatrician (ST4 or above) with an interest in Education to join Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, Childrens Hospital, as a SPRInT (Specialist Paediatric Regional Innovative Training) Fellow for 12 months from March 2026. This post is suitable for a trainee who wishes to train in neonates and education. The post counts towards training and is not an Out of Programme Post.
Overview
SPRInT (Specialised Paediatric Regional Innovative Training) provides training for Yorkshire and Humber paediatric trainees at ST5-ST6. The course covers all aspects of the Progress Plus curriculum. The first year was launched in September 2023, and the Fellow will contribute to developing and designing the course. The course will be delivered in a hybrid format (face-to-face and online) using Blackboard. Some material will come from external courses; the majority will be in-house. Administrative support is available for day-to-day teaching organisation and training on Blackboard.
Main duties
The SPRInT Education Fellow will be based in the Neonates & General Paediatrics department at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. This fixed-term 12-month post requires full registration with the General Medical Council and a license to practice by the start date.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and optimise educational material on Blackboard (in collaboration with faculty).
- Create online tutorials and evaluate learning that aligns with Progress Plus competencies covered in the taught course.
- Evaluate tutorials for quality assurance and contribute to ongoing quality improvement.
- Develop the online learning environment and provide ad-hoc faculty support to incorporate virtual teaching methods and resources into training.
- Support live online teaching as session co-moderator.
- Assist with development, advertising, and administration of SPRInT activities.
- On-call commitment in Neonates.
- Contribute to the development of the SPRInT teaching programme and related activities.
The role will be 50% clinical (neonatal or general paediatric team) and 50% non-clinical during daytime hours, with full on-call commitment to Neonates or General Paediatrics.

About the role
The SPRInT Fellow post is attached to the neonatal unit at Leeds General Infirmary and St James’s University Hospital. The Neonatal unit provides care to around 1,600 newborns each year, including intensive care, high dependency care, and surgical newborns. The Fellow will work closely with Dr Mullins, a neonatal consultant and TPD Education lead for the Yorkshire and Humber deanery, who will support the fellow in their role.
