An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated trainee paediatrician (ST4 or above) with an interest in service development and simulation to join Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust as one of two Paediatric Simulation Fellows for Leeds Children's Hospital (LCH).

The Simulation Fellows organise, run and feedback weekly simulation sessions in different departments, as well as supporting regional courses. They will greatly develop their teaching and management skills, with the opportunity to access further training and gain experience in leadership and service development.

There is also the opportunity to work on relevant quality improvement projects which can change practice at LCH.

Main duties of the job include:

  • Running regular in-situ simulation sessions across LCH including the MDT and providing debrief and feedback following the sessions.
  • Helping with induction, particularly skills teaching sessions.
  • Working with the other simulation fellows in the trust to create collaborative sessions, team working and improve interdepartmental working.
  • Attending human factors and debrief training.
  • Acting as Education Leads for Junior Doctors Forum and working with the chair and co-chair of the JDF.
  • Helping on regional simulation courses YIPS and HELP which have sessions run in Leeds.
  • Involvement in quality improvement in LCH.
  • Attending the deteriorating child group to provide feedback from simulations and gain ideas to guide the simulation programme.
  • Delivering on-call commitment in general paediatrics or neonatology.

Applications are open to trainee paediatricians:

  • At ST4 or above in the paediatric run-through training programme.
  • Working full time or less-than-full-time.
  • With a national training number.
  • With full GMC registration.
  • Ideally applicants would also have completed GIC and be an instructor on NLS/APLS or have evidence of experience in teaching simulation.

This is a fixed-term role for 12 months. The role would be undertaken out of training and therefore, this post is likely to extend the trainees' completion of training (CCT) date. This should be discussed with the trainees' educational supervisor and training programme director.

Essential qualifications include:

  • Paediatric Specialty trainee doctor ST4 level or above at the time of commencement of post.
  • Must have completed RCPCH membership exams at the time of application.
  • Must have completed 6 months on tier 2 rota in the UK.
  • Outcome 1 at last ARCP.
  • APLS or EPALS or equivalent must be valid.

Desirable qualifications include:

  • Additional qualification in medical education or simulation.
  • GIC.

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.

Applications from job seekers who require current Skilled worker sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications.
