This is an exciting opportunity to join the Security team at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (LTHT) and to provide 24/7 cover across our hospital sites. The security team responds to reports across our sites, providing vital support to our staff to ensure all areas are kept safe, so our teams can deliver excellent care to our patients. You will help to ensure our estates are locked and secure, respond to fire calls and support in resolving conflict between different individuals. As such, you will provide a calm and reassuring presence to staff, visitors and patients at all times.

Our skilled security team is very important in keeping our hospitals running safely and effectively. This will be a permanent full-time position giving the successful candidates the chance to gain additional experience, keep your skills up to date, and develop new skills. Candidates must have a valid SIA Door Supervisor Badge.

Main duties of the job:

  • Successful candidates will work alongside our award-winning Security team across a variety of locations in Leeds.
  • This is a challenging but rewarding role protecting staff, visitors and patients as well as property.
  • Responding to fire calls, locking and unlocking duties and assisting to resolve disputes between individuals in a calm and professional manner.
  • This is a demanding and physical role and there is a requirement to wear body armour at all times when on duty.

Job responsibilities:

  • The post holder is a member of the Estates operational team and will be responsible for carrying out any duties commensurate with the grade of post.
  • The role includes provision of security and traffic management across any of the Trust sites or sites where the Trust delivers services from.
  • The role requires flexibility in approach to the duties required as these may alter throughout the course of a work day/week.
  • High standards of quality will be expected to be delivered in line with Estates/LTHT practices and policies.
  • The post holder will be expected to have basic knowledge of a number of administrative and operational functions and utilise both E&F and LTHT IT systems in order to complete their job role.
  • Adhering to standards and practices in Trust Policy and Estates practices/procedural manuals alongside national initiatives, to ensure that a safe and secure environment is provided for patients.
  • To be a point of contact for patients and other visitors to the Trust and provide a warm friendly welcome offering protection, support and assistance.
  • Team members will be expected to operate as part of the Estates team covering any Trust managed service within the region.

To maintain vehicles in good working order and use it to maximum efficiency. Reporting faults and breakdowns immediately to the Facilities Supervisor. At the start of each shift carry out the appropriate vehicle checks and complete the vehicle record logs. Carry out car parking duties to ensure the effective management of traffic across the sites. This will include issuing parking violation notices and managing traffic flow. Deal with Lost and Found property in accordance with the Trust Policy which will include maintaining the property register, ensuring the safe storage and return of lost property and the disposal of unclaimed property. Provide cash handling and escort duties to the Cashiers. Carry out lock up duties as required. Carry out initial investigations, take statements and provide written reports with regard to breaches of security, incidents, thefts, damage and major traffic/access problems. Challenge individuals in restricted areas who do not have identification and members of staff not wearing ID badges. Assist with the issue of keys to staff. Assist in promoting initiatives for tackling violence and aggression against staff and health care professionals within the Trust (Work without Fear / Report to Support), through innovation, education, prevention and detection routes, along with close working relationships with the Police and other external agencies. Ensure PPE provided is clean, not damaged and is worn as necessary for the role. Ensure that all duties are carried out in line with quality control procedures using standard relevant documentation. To ensure that the correct uniform and PPE is worn at all times whilst on duty. Provide a professional, effective and competent operational security service to the Trust to ensure a safe and secure environment for staff, patients, visitors and Trust assets. Provide advice to patients, relatives, other staff relating to security/safety of others in a conflict situation. Analyse security incidents and make suitable judgement when assessing potential conflict situations. To provide appropriate response to any alarm upon activation i.e. fire alarms, including directions for responding teams. The good housekeeping of the hospital/work environment and equipment internally/externally related to the specific job role using approved methods and equipment/mechanical aids to national/Trust standards to ensure that a professional image is maintained at all times. Operation and minor maintenance of all equipment necessary for the role to be used in compliance with standard operating procedures. To undertake the duties of any of the specific job role ensuring that all the procedures, correct practices are adhered resulting in excellent patient satisfaction. Ensuring all communications are responded to in an efficient/timely manner. To follow all local method statements & risk assessments to ensure that the role is undertaken in a safe, secure manner. Act on feedback given from any quality assurance system. Communication with allied health professionals/trust staff members to ensure that the patients' health and wellbeing is being maintained in helping to deliver excellent clinical outcomes. To report any faults/issues/complaints regarding service provision or equipment immediately to the supervisor or other appropriate senior Trust staff member. To complete and record role specific data/information either electronically or in written format that is required complying with operational procedures or local/Trust/National policy and audit recommendations/controls. To provide a warm professional welcome and supportive communication to patients and visitors to the Trust, providing an efficient and courteous service. Use and maintain any role specific databases/hardware/software, in accordance with departmental guidelines. To ensure that requests for information are dealt with in an efficient and timely manner. The transportation of patients and/or goods/equipment as determined by the department within the region. Carry out patrols using the Blue-Sky patrol system and keep updated any associated electronic app that records Blue-Sky Patrols. Maintain and use the Security Officers PDA for electronically recording the outcome of tasks and incident reporting. Maintain currency in training for Mental Capacity Act, DoLs learning disability and autism, delirium, dementia and other illnesses that cause challenging behaviours. Maintain the Security Industries Association Door Supervisor License. Complete Use of Force documentation after any restraint of any individual. Operate and maintain Body Worn Cameras. Monitor and maintain the Hospital with regards to being smokefree and challenge those that ignore the smokefree status.
