An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the team at the Leeds Dental Institute and Outreach sites as a Qualified Dental Nurse. As a Qualified Dental Nurse, you will be responsible for delivering high standards of safe and effective care, monitoring and maintaining care to ensure it consistently meets Trust standards. You will work as a highly valued member of the dental team, and we are looking for enthusiastic, professional, and motivated team players who can also work independently.

We strongly encourage further professional development, with opportunities for continuing professional development linked to your personal development plan. Applicants must hold a Certificate in Dental Nursing and be registered with the General Dental Council as a dental nurse. A post qualification certificate or additional competencies are desirable. The post is full-time 37.5 hours or part-time/job share would be considered. Working hours – Monday-Friday – 8.30am – 5pm.

Main duties of the job

  • The post involves supporting and providing chair side assistance to the multidisciplinary dental team, including dental undergraduate and postgraduate students in busy clinical areas within various departments of the Leeds Dental Institute and dental outreach sites.
  • You will be responsible for ensuring the correct equipment and instruments are available for surgery sessions, complete administrative tasks for patients and daily running of surgeries.
  • You must have commitment to putting patients' needs first within a friendly, supportive, efficient, clean and safe environment, providing a high standard of care whilst always ensuring patients are treated with the utmost respect.
  • You will support the education and induction of apprentice dental nurses, dental undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Job responsibilities

Role: Qualified Dental Nurse Grade: Band 4

JOB PURPOSE/SUMMARY

  • Prepare for and assist (closely support) clinicians, dental students and postgraduate students with care, treatment and management of patients with general and complex dental treatment.
  • Manage the preparation of the clinical areas ensuring a high standard of cleanliness within the department and working to the hospital Infection Control Policy.
  • Communicate with members of the multi-disciplinary team to facilitate continuity of care and promote effective team working.
  • Assist with the teaching and supervision of learners and other staff.
  • Respect the dignity and confidentiality of patients.
  • Maintain a high standard of work and professionalism.
  • Take responsibility for own personal development and complete all mandatory training required for the role.
  • All staff are responsible for working with their colleagues to maintain and improve the quality of services provided to our patients and other service users. This includes complying at all times with the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust Policies.

Person Specification

  • Recognised certificate in Dental Nursing.
  • Dental Nurse registration with the General Dental Council.
  • Maths and English GCSE A-C or 4-9.

  • Ability to work four-handed/close support.
  • Experience in a dental specialty (e.g., Implants, Sedation, Orthodontics, Oral Health).
  • Evidence of CPD and ongoing professional development.
