Clinical Fellow with a special interest in Health Associated Infections and Infection Prevention and Control in the department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology. The role will commence September 2026 and end September 2027, a fixed term of one year. Candidates must be fully registered with the General Medical Council and hold a license to practice at the time of application.
Main duties of the job
- An exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic doctor to join the current Obstetrics and Gynaecology team as a clinical fellow at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
- The service is delivered through four sites: St James University Hospital (SJUH), Leeds General Infirmary (LGI), Wharfdale General Hospital and Seacroft Hospital.
- The post is suitable for doctors wishing to gain clinical experience at a ST3+ level, and offers a wide range of experience across all areas of the specialty.
- While not recognised for training, the appointee will be supported by a Clinical Supervisor to meet career and educational goals and will develop leadership and quality improvement skills, particularly in healthcare‑associated infection (HCAI) and infection prevention and control (IPC).
Job responsibilities
- Deliver clinical care and support across all sites.
- Participate in and lead quality improvement projects aimed at reducing HCAI.
- Develop and update infection control guidelines and patient information leaflets.
- Conduct audits and contribute to evidence based practice.
- Attend teaching sessions and mentor junior staff.
Qualifications
- Full GMC registration and licence to practice.
- Experience at ST3+ level for a minimum of 6 months, ideally within the UK.
- Successfully completed MRCOG Part 1.
- Foundation programme or equivalent foundation competencies completed.
- Basic Life Support training essential.
- Demonstrated leadership, clinical competence in obstetrics and gynaecology, and experience in audit/quality improvement work.
Additional requirements
- Applicants should have knowledge of obstetrics and gynaecology as practiced in the UK and experience working within the UK is desirable.
- The post holder must also be competent in operative non‑rotational deliveries and Caesarean sections.
