We have an opportunity for a Band 4 Nursing Associate to join our Gynaecology Acute Treatment Unit at St James University Hospital. On ward J24, we are committed to delivering high standards of patient care and are seeking dynamic, motivated, and resourceful individuals to support the nursing team in providing a high-quality service. Our ward provides dedicated inpatient care for women requiring emergency gynaecology assessment, treatment, and management of acute surgical conditions. With a diverse caseload and rapid patient turnover, this post offers an excellent opportunity to develop clinical, organisational, and team support skills within a busy and rewarding specialist setting.
As a Band 4 Nursing Associate, you will deliver safe, effective, and compassionate nursing care as part of the ward team. You will work alongside the Senior Sister, Junior Sister, and Registered Nurses, supporting clinical care and helping maintain high standards. You will take part in direct patient care and contribute to service development where appropriate. Good communication, organisational skills, and the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team are essential. Experience in gynaecology, women's health, or acute surgical care is desirable. Main duties of the job:

Job responsibilities:
The nursing associate has a breadth of knowledge across the lifespan and across the fields of nursing, providing holistic and person-centred care and support for people of all ages and in a variety of settings. The nursing associate works independently under the leadership of registered nurses, working within the sphere of nursing and care and within all aspects of the nursing process. Nursing associates are equipped with the knowledge, understanding, skills, attitudes and behaviours relevant to employment as a nursing associate and will work to the NMC code of conduct.
Person Specification:
- Registered Nursing Associate on the NMC register.
- Educated to a minimum of Level 5 Foundation degree level specific to nursing associate practice.
- GCSEs Grade A-C in Maths and English or equivalent.
- Care Certificate.
Other criteria:
- Good written and verbal skills.
- Able to provide and be responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of individualised programmes of care.
- Ability to organise and prioritise workload.
- Understanding of skills and knowledge required to develop team members.
- Able to recognise own limitations in the context of the Nursing Associate role.
- Knowledge of when to seek advice and refer to a registered health care professional.
- Able to fulfil Occupational Health requirements for the post.
Experience:
- Understanding of the scope of the role of the Nursing Associate in context of the team and the organisation, and how the role contributes to service development.
- An understanding of research and evidence-based practice.
- An understanding of the organisation and working practices of the area.
- An understanding of the process and philosophy of preceptorship.
- An understanding of the training and development needs of other staff.
