Main duties of the job

As a permanent full-time Band 6 Midwife in the Fetal Medicine Unit (FMU) at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, you will provide advanced midwifery care for women and their families when an anomaly is identified. Your responsibilities include the assessment of care needs, development, implementation and evaluation of care programmes, teaching other midwives and non‑midwifery staff, and acting as the prime care provider for a group of women. You will work alongside specialist consultant obstetricians, coordinate care with the wider multidisciplinary team, and practice clinical skills at an advanced level compared with newly qualified midwives. In the absence of the senior staff member you will take charge of the ward.

Job responsibilities

Our Fetal Medicine team operates Monday to Friday 8‑6. We perform counselling, support the consultant with invasive procedures (CVS, amniocentesis), coordinate care and appointments, and provide specialist midwifery advice to colleagues and referring teams. We support one another to deliver an exceptional service for pregnant people and families, with psychological support and debriefing to protect emotional wellbeing.
