An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Womens Service at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust as a Community Midwifery Matron. This is a key leadership role within our maternity services, with responsibility for the strategic and operational leadership of community midwifery. You will also play a pivotal role in supporting and advancing the public health agenda, working collaboratively across organisational and system-wide partnerships to improve outcomes for women, birthing people and families. We are seeking an experienced, motivated and forward-thinking midwife who is keen to progress their career within a senior leadership role.
As a valued member of the senior midwifery team within the Womens CSU, you will contribute to service development, quality improvement, and the delivery of safe, effective, and inclusive maternity care. The role will involve participation on the Maternity out of hours on‑call.
Main duties of the jobThe jobholder will have overall responsibility for the management of nursing/associated staff and the management of midwifery resources/budgets within the CSU or a part of it. The jobholder will be accountable for ensuring the highest standard of clinical care is provided within the wards and departments for which they are responsible and ensure the principles of clinical governance are implemented at a local level. The jobholder will work in partnership with the facilities department in ensuring high standards of hospital cleanliness is maintained, embracing the principles outlined in the Matrons charter. The jobholder will be easily identifiable to patients, provide strong leadership through a visible presence and provide support, advice and assistance required by patients, their families and carers. The jobholder will also support the implementation of the Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS), being a focal point for advice to patients and carers and local resolution of complaints.

Within our community services, we support women and families across a wide geographical area, working in close partnership with multidisciplinary colleagues to provide safe, personalised and continuity-based care from booking through to the postnatal period. Our sites offer specialist maternal medicine services, with level 3 neonatal facilities at the LGI site and level 2 at SJUH. We also provide choice of birthplace, including our 3-bedded alongside midwifery-led Lotus Unit at LGI, with birth pools available at both sites.
As a Community Midwifery Matron, you will play a key leadership role in driving quality, safety, and innovation within community services. Working collaboratively with obstetric, anaesthetic, neonatal and wider system partners, you will contribute to our ongoing perinatal improvement journey and champion excellent outcomes and experiences for women and families.
