Locum Consultant in Cardiology with a specialist interest in echocardiography, heart valve disease and general cardiology. The role is within the Cardiology Department at Leeds General Infirmary and supports the echocardiography and valve service led by Dr Dominik Schlosshan and other specialists. The appointment continues core cardiology clinical activity following a departure and supports further expansion and innovation within echocardiography and structural valve disease programme.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide independent transoesophageal echocardiography (TOE) and stress echocardiography reporting.
- Manage advanced valvular heart disease in a multidisciplinary setting.
- Support structural valve interventions, including TOE and other imaging for planning.
- Deliver high-quality cardiology clinical care and maintain clinical registration.
- Participate in undergraduate and postgraduate education.
- Engage in clinical audit and research activities.
- Maintain written and spoken English competency for patient and colleague communication.
Qualifications and Experience
- CCT (or within 6 months) in Cardiology or equivalent.
- Eligible for full GMC registration with a current licence to practice.
- Completed a recognised training programme in Cardiology.
- High level of clinical experience in assessment and management of valvular disease.
- Experience in transthoracic and transoesophageal echo with recognised accreditation or active pursuit.
- Evidence of cardiac MRI and interventional TOE, with some cardiac CT experience desirable.
- Demonstrated ability to carry out medical research.
- Experience in training undergraduate medical students and postgraduate doctors.
- Participation in regular clinical audit.
- Eligibility to work in the UK and sponsorship status disclosure.
