Role Overview

Applications are invited to join our friendly, supportive team of cardio‑thoracic anaesthetists at Leeds General Infirmary.

This is a 10‑point‑average (10PA) post covering cardiac theatres, cardiac ICU and cardiac cath labs, with a 1 in 11 on‑call commitment.

The post will begin as soon as possible for an initial six‑month period and has been created to accommodate increased workload across the service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver 10PA support to the anaesthetic team in cardiac theatres, cardiac ICU and cardiac cath labs.
  • Provide anaesthetic coverage for both aortic and aortic valve operations, as well as adult congenital heart surgery where required.
  • Maintain updated knowledge of case‑specific protocols and participate in post‑procedural debriefs.
  • Support teaching, training and service development initiatives within the department.
  • Work collaboratively with surgeons, nursing staff and other clinicians to optimise patient outcomes.
  • Candidate Profile
  • Accredited in FRCA from the Royal College of Anaesthetists or an equivalent qualification.
  • On the Specialist Register or within six months of admission to the Register if in a UK training programme.
  • Established skills in cardiothoracic anaesthesia, including experience of adult congenital heart surgery (useful but not mandatory).
  • Excellent communication and team‑working skills, with a strong commitment to teaching and service development.
  • Suitable for applicants following the portfolio‑/CESR pathway; we have a successful track record supporting colleagues through this route.
