Healthcare Scientist in Leeds

An opportunity has arisen for a qualified Healthcare Scientist (Gastrointestinal Physiology & urodynamics specialisms) to join the GI Physiology and Urodynamics team at Leeds Teaching Hospitals. Main duties of the job:

• The successful candidate will play a role in providing a comprehensive range of clinical investigations in GI Physiology including High Resolution Manometry, pH/Impedance monitoring and Endoanal ultrasound to assist in the diagnosis of gastrointestinal conditions to patients from within the Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust and the wider region, while also assisting in the development of the service to meet the needs of service users.
• There will be cross-specialism working in undertaking Urodynamic investigations - standard Cystometrogram (CMG Pressure/Flow Studies), and video Cystometrogram (VCMG).

The Department of Gastrointestinal Physiology is a busy physiologist-led centre providing an extensive range of clinical investigations of both upper and lower gastrointestinal function. The department serves the needs of the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and additionally provides a tertiary service to the surrounding communities of Calderdale, North and West Yorkshire. The team also delivers an adult urodynamic service including video urodynamics to the department of Urology at Leeds Teaching Hospital.

Job responsibilities:

• Undertake investigation of the gastrointestinal tract (GI) using specialised diagnostic equipment, including analysis and clinical reporting on patients with a range of both upper and lower GI conditions in order to assist the consultant in the diagnosis and treatment of a range of disorders.
• Undertake the diagnostic investigations using specialised urodynamic measuring equipment on patients with Genito-urinary conditions in order to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of urological disorders.
• Participate in developing service improvement and the quality-of-care provision within both GI Physiology & Urodynamics.
• Be training co-ordinator assessor for trainees undertaking the National School of Healthcare Science Scientist Training programme as well as providing training and clinical supervision to junior medical staff and assistant grades and other healthcare professionals as deemed necessary.

Person Specification:

• Relevant Masters degree in Clinical Physiology (GI Physiology Specialism) via the NHS Scientist Training Programme - those about to complete training this year are encouraged to apply.
• AGIP accreditation or about to obtain accreditation on completion of STP training.
• To have achieved (or about to achieve) all competencies modules across the GI physiology specialism of the Scientist training programme (STP) from an approved training centre.
• Completion of competencies within the Urodynamics rotation of the scientist training programme (STP).
• To have developed practical, theoretical and analytical expertise across the GI Physiology specialism to the level of an independent practitioner.
