MedicinesManagement & Pharmacy Services are looking for a Pharmacy EmbeddedResearcher to support applied research, while also maintaining or developingtheir own area of clinical pharmacy practice.
Thesuccessful candidate will be a researcher with a track record of working as apharmacist or pharmacy technician within health services. They will need tobe independent, resilient and innovative, have exceptional influencing skillsand have experience of developing funding applications for high qualityresearch in close collaboration with healthcare staff and managers.
Thisis a fantastic opportunity for a highly applied health services researcher tomake a practical contribution to improving patient care. The embeddedresearcher\βs role is to both mobilise established evidence and to create newknowledge through pragmatic evaluation.
Therole is wide ranging, and the successful applicant will be expected tonegotiate their contribution to the research initiative once in post and toagree a role which is both ambitious and achievable. This is likely toinclude the following roles: working with and alongside a range of peopleacross organisational boundaries and bringing peoplefrom different disciplines and backgrounds together being the supportivefacilitator between research and practice, making research more accessible tostaff as a topic and showing them how they can use existing research andevidence or create research and evidence themselves
Main duties of the job
ThePharmacy Embedded Researcher will develop and deliver a proof-of-conceptresearch project, developing parameters to describe and measure the impact ofthis new role in order to establish a longer-term plan or a permanent rolewithin the Trust, based on their research findings.
Thepost holder will lead, direct, develop and communicate the Pharmacy-ledresearch strategy, working across Leeds and with a wide network of researchand innovation stakeholders. Research active healthcare organisations deliverbetter care to patients: the post holder will conduct research in order toevidence the specific aspects of medicines optimisation that contributes tothis goal.
Theresearch element of the post is assigned 0.5WTE of the post. The post holderwill undertake clinical pharmacy practice in their area of expertise for theremainder.

Job responsibilities
JOBPURPOSE/SUMMARY
TheEmbedded Researcher will develop and deliver a research project, aimed atresearching a future substantive CSU or organisational role. The role willdevelop parameters to describe and measure the optimum breadth and impact ofthis role within MMPS CSU as an embedded profession-specific researcher.
Therole will be the Principal Investigator for the research project and willChair a research project board consisting of representatives from MMPS,R&I and the relevant CSUs.
Thepost holder will lead, direct, develop and communicate the Pharmacy-ledresearch strategy, working across Leeds and with a wide network of researchand innovation stakeholders. Research active Trusts improve outcomes and careof patients. The post holder will conduct research in order to evidence thespecific aspects of medicines optimisation that contributes to this goal.
PRINCIPALDUTIES & AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
Beresponsible for advising and leading the development of all Pharmacy staff asresearchers, in collaboration with relevant leadership teams
Establish,through research methodology and allied approaches a research successfulnetwork across Leeds Pharmacy community
Developand lead the implementation of approaches that will embed appropriateresearcher skills within all LTHT MMPS Pharmacy staffs portfolios ofcompetence.
Tobe responsible for the establishment of a longer term plan or a permanentrole within the CSU establishment based on their research findings
Thepost holder will be required to work in close partnership with colleagues inthe Universities of Bradford and Leeds and maintain and develop allpartnership research activity with which teams are currently involved or maybe involved in
Theywill work on site, closely aligned to the Research & Innovation servicein MMPS and within the Trust. The role will collaborate with the TrustResearch and Innovation leadership team and the Research Lead for NursingMidwifery and AHPs
Tolead applied research from within the Pharmacy services across Leeds workingin close and harmonious collaboration with partners across the Leeds Healtheconomy
Theresearcher will add value to the MMPS CSU through delivery of appliedresearch that makes a difference to our service delivery. Close and effective collaboration withLeeds Improvement Project leads will be required.
Tolead and develop the CSU Clinical Audit programme. To lead and championresearch idea generation and realisation
Thepost-holder will support pharmacy staff to make choices about how their ownresearch ideas and development needs can be developed or conducted.
Thepost-holder will foster collaborations with individuals and groups who arecentral to the research studies and topics that are pertinent at the time forthe CSU. These may includeclinicians, service users and managers.
Thepost holder will facilitate partnerships between academia and servicecolleagues to combine knowledge in order to improve medicines optimisationand medicines safety research design and/or delivery.
Thepost holder will work with multiple local partners to ensure thatservice/system transformation is catalysed using applied research.
Thepost holder will undertake clinical practice in their area of expertise.
Thepost holder will provide a minimum of at least one session per month ofprofessional supervisory cover in an appropriate pharmacy setting. The postholder will be required to work evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays on arotational basis.

- GPhC registered pharmacist
- Masters in Health Service-related area or equivalent
- PhD in Health Service Research-related area
