Are you an experienced driver who would thrive from helping us keep Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust running? Facilities Transport Services is pleased to offer a full time Heavy Goods Vehicle Class C Driver or a Public Service Vehicle Class D Driver position. In this role, you’ll be part of our transport team, helping to deliver a friendly, prompt, and professional service on behalf of Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

In this role, you could be supporting our patients by taking samples for urgent testing, taking them home after a stay with us, helping staff move between our sites, or keeping our hospital in great condition by transporting waste. It’s a crucial and varied role which is vital to our patients, staff and visitors in many ways.

Applicants must have good communication skills, a good geographical knowledge of Leeds and Nationwide and must be able to work effectively in a service focused environment. It’s worth noting that there is also a significant manual handling element and collection of bulk items attached to this post.

Please be aware the post will require the applicant to work 37.50hrs a week over rotational shift patterns, which can include weekends and bank holidays. This demand on the transport team is dynamic and fast-paced, so a flexible working attitude is essential to the role.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be responsible for undertaking a diverse range of tasks including:

  • To drive any of the Trust vehicles we rely on and undertake any duties relevant to the role.
  • Services include the movement of patients, staff, food, goods, blood products, clinic notes, post and pharmacy to all wards and departments.
  • The role requires flexibility in approach to the duties required as these may alter throughout the course of a workday/week.
  • High standards of quality will be expected to be delivered in line with Facilities/LTHT practices and policies.
  • The post holder will be expected to have basic knowledge of a number of administrative and operational functions and utilise both facilities and LTHT IT systems in order to complete their job role.
  • The nature of the role requires responding to tasks via a defined communication system.
  • Adhering to standards and practices in Trust Policy and facilities practices/procedural manuals alongside national initiatives, to ensure that a safe and clean environment is provided for patients.
  • To be a point of contact for patients and other visitors to the Trust and provide a warm, friendly and welcoming presence, offering directions, support, and assistance where needed.
  • Team members will be expected to operate as part of the Facilities team covering any Trust managed service within the region.
