An exciting new opportunity has arisen within the Catering Service Delivery team for two new band 2 Catering Assistants to work as part of our team of catering service delivery experts. In this role, you'll play a part in assisting to deliver service excellence to the Leeds Teaching Hospitals patients.
Following roles available:
- 1x 6 hours a day Monday to Friday (30 hours total per week)
- 1x 7.5 hours a day variable shift pattern (37.5 hours total per week) working from our Receipt, Assembly & Distribution Centre (RADU) at Seacroft Hospital.

Main duties of the job:
- To complete all relevant daily documentation in compliance with relevant statutory legislation and local codes of practice and quality control procedures.
- The basic preparation of food ensuring adherence to standard recipes and methods of production. Maintenance of portion control and presentation standards.
- To use specialised catering area equipment, i.e. mixers, salad slicers, weighing scales, heat sealers and dishwashers as required for tasks carried out within this role.
- To maintain cleaning and hygiene standards within designated areas complying with cleaning schedules in line with hygiene codes of practice.
- Reporting any instances of contamination or pest infestation as soon as detected and initial isolation of problem items.
- Responsible for working with colleagues to maintain and improve the quality of services provided to our patients and other service users.
- Ensure that patient feeding requests are actioned in a timely manner to ensure that the patient nutritional requirements are not affected.
- Ensure that all tasks are carried out in compliance with relevant statutory legislation and local policies & procedures including Food Safety, Health and Safety, COSHH and in particular by working in the manner of training to follow agreed safe working procedures.
- Reporting incidents & near misses using the Trust Incident Reporting system.
- To maintain high standards of personal hygiene and appearance at all times whilst on duty.

Person Specification:
- Qualifications
- Basic Food safety/Hygiene certificate (or ability to obtain on commencement)
- Basic level English and Maths
- Health & Safety / COSHH / training / awareness
- Ability to work under own initiative and as part of a team
- Dedicated to support the development of a high quality service
- Shows enthusiasm in regard to personal development
- Able to meet physical requirements of the role
- Able to fulfil Occupational Health requirements for the post (with reasonable adjustments if necessary), including clearance on blood borne viruses in compliance with Trust Policy
- Ability to communicate both verbally and by reading and writing
- Requirement to work in a chilled/freezer environment with some temperatures as low as -18
- Previous Catering / Cleaning experience
- Previous NHS experience
