An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced nurse to join the spinal specialist nurse team within the spinal surgery service in LTHT. Experience in spinal surgery nursing is not essential, but desirable.

Main duties of the job

We offer a challenging and dynamic clinical learning environment dealing with a wide range of spinal patients, including elective surgery, acute surgery, spinal fractures, dealing with both operative and non-operative treatments.

You will be working as part of a busy multi-disciplinary team who are dedicated in providing individualised, evidence based spinal surgery management. The post holder will be expected to work both autonomously and closely with spinal clinicians and across a range of specialities to meet the needs of the service. Ultimately, we are searching for a dynamic, highly motivated, and passionate individual committed to high quality patient care.

Job responsibilities

JOB PURPOSE

The Jobholder is responsible for the management of a defined caseload. The jobholder carries continuing responsibility for the assessment of care needs, the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care and the setting of standards of care. The jobholder will provide specialist nursing care and advice to a specific patient group and will contribute to the development of the speciality service. The jobholder will ensure cost effective use of resources.

JOB DIMENSIONS

The jobholder will work alongside the current band 7 and 6 nurses within the team. We provide information, education, advice and support for those patients undergoing elective spinal surgery. This can be undertaken via the telephone, within patient groups, person to person on the wards or outpatient clinic settings. Patient contact starts at the point the patient is listed for surgery through to ward discharge and beyond. The role requires good communication skills and close liaison with all members of the Clinical/ MDT team to optimise the surgical outcome for the patient.

Registered Nurse (Level 1)

Recognised teaching/assessing qualification

Experience

Significant post registration experience at Band 5 or equivalent and experience within a relevant speciality, during which the following experiences should have been gained:

Service development and or change management (desirable)

Experience and knowledge of specialty
