Main duties of the job

Thesuccessful applicants will provide a high quality musculoskeletal radiologyservice, working closely with the consultant radiologists in this specialty.They will develop a specialist interest in all aspects of musculoskeletalradiology. They will be expected to participate in the Radiology SpR teachingprogramme and departmental clinical research and audit.

In addition they, will be expected to undertake anevening general acute CT list (alternate week) and this will be incorporatedinto the fellowship timetable. They willassist in the training of junior medical staff (radiological and otherclinicians)

About us

Thereare departments of clinical radiology at each of the 6 sites that make up LeedsTeaching Hospitals. A comprehensive range of diagnostic and interventionalprocedures are provided to the population of Leeds. In addition, significant numbers of referralsfrom the areas of the region and beyond are received for specialist procedures.

Musculoskeletalradiology services are based at Leeds General Infirmary (acute orthopaedics,trauma, spinal and plastic surgery) and at Chapel Allerton Hospital (electiveorthopaedic surgery and rheumatology). The team provides imaging servicesacross the field of diagnostic and interventional musculoskeletal radiology,including the MSK ultrasound, MRI, arthrography and a wide range ofinterventional procedures. Close contact is kept with orthopaedic, rheumatology& A & E clinical colleagues principally.

Job responsibilities

TheRadiology Directorate across the Trust has 80 + Consultant Radiologists andapproximately 50 specialist registrars.Within Musculoskeletal Radiology there are 9 Consultant Radiologists(Drs J Rankine, P Robinson, H Gupta, D Barron, E Rowbotham, R Fawcett, B Pass,J Baren, M Ooi & S. Paruthikunnan). They are based on the Chapel Allertonand Leeds General Infirmary sites but provide MSK imaging services across thetrust. Dr Richard Fawcett currently acts as the speciality lead for thesub-speciality.

Three fellows assist the service along with specialistregistrars on attachment to the subspecialty. While each member of the teamshares the day-to-day work in the department, within research fields particularareas of interest have been developed by individual group members. Theseinclude spinal imaging, trauma radiology, diagnostic and therapeutic radiologyof sports injuries, imaging of soft tissue sarcomas and imaging of arthritis.The department has a strong research focus and an extensive publicationportfolio. Members of the group are active in the International SkeletalSociety, European Society of Skeletal Radiology and British Society of SkeletalRadiology

Person Specification

Clinical, Academic, and Personal Skills

• Ability to provide complete details of employment history and evidence that career progression is consistent with personal circumstances
• Evidence that present achievement andperformance is commensurate with totality of their period of training
• At least 4.5 years experience in Radiology by the time of intended start date
• Demonstrates clarity in written/spoken communication & capacity to adapt language as appropriate to the situation. Able to build rapport, listen, persuade & negotiate
• Capacity to use logical/lateral thinking to solve problems/make decisions, indicating an analytical/scientific approach
• Capacity to take in others perspectives and treat others with understanding; sees patients as people & demonstrates respect for all
• Able to work in multi-professional teams & supervise junior medical staff, show leadership, make decisions, organise and motivate other team members for the benefit of patients

Qualifications

• MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
• FRCR (Parts 1 and 2) or equivalent evidence of radiology training with at least 4.5 years in a UK recognised Radiology Training Scheme.
• The candidate should have or be within 6 months of obtaining their CCT in Clinical Radiology
• MRCP, MRCS, or other postgraduate degree

Clinical Experience and Career Progression

• Experience in General and Musculoskeletal Radiology with a demonstrable and verifiable interest in MSK radiology. Such interest may be shown for instance through audit and research projects in MSK
• radiology, attendance at MSK radiology courses
• Documented competence in delivering and reporting a general acute CT service out of hours.
• Experience after full GMC registration or equivalent, and evidence of achievement of foundation competences, in line with GMC standards/Good Medical Practice; including
• make the care or your patient your first concern, provide a good standard of practice and care, take prompt action if you think that patient safety, dignity or comfort is being compromised
• Protect and promote the health of patients and of the public, treat patients as individuals and respect their dignity, work in partnership with patients
• Work with colleagues in the ways that best serve patients interests, be honest and open and act with integrity & never discriminate unfairly against patients or colleagues
• Never abuse your patients trust in you or the publics trust in the profession
• Evidence of achievement of CCT competencies in Radiology (as defined by the curricula relating to Radiology RCR Training )

Eligibility, Fitness to practice, and Language Skills

• Be eligible for full registration with, and hold a current licence to practise from, the GMC at intended start date
• Eligibility to work in the UK.
• Advanced Life Support Certificate from the Resuscitation Council UK or equivalent (as required to complete Foundation competences) by intended start date
• Is up to date and fit to practise safely and is aware of own training needs.
• All applicants to have demonstrable skills in written & spoken English adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients & colleagues demonstrated by one of the
• following - applicants have undertaken undergraduate medical training in English OR achieved the minimum score of 7 across all 4 of the following categories in the academic International
• Testing System (IELTS) in a single sitting within 24 months at time of application Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing. (An overall minimum score of 7.5)
• OR achieved the minimum Grade B across all 4 of the following categories in the Occupational English Test (OET) in medicine in a single sitting within 24 months at time of application
