Weare looking for enthusiastic applicants wanting to start their finance careerand join the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and be part of our awardwinning finance team.

TheApprentice Finance Assistant role is initially for 15 months, but withcompletion of a successful training period you will have the opportunity toapply for a substantive role within the Finance Team and complete thequalification.

Weoffer a fully funded training package that involves completing theAssociation of Accounting Technicians course (initially level 2/3 dependingon current qualifications) through our external provider along with in-housetraining. You will also gain a broadrange of finance experience working in the Management Accounting Team.

Main duties of the job

Thepost holder will be undertaking an apprenticeship within Leeds TeachingHospitals NHS Trust (LTHT). The training will be delivered through formaleducation both in-house and via external providers, alongside a workplacement in the Finance Team.

Workingas part of the Finance Team, the jobholder will assist in the production ofroutine financial monitoring information, providing support and advice tobudget holder, monitors and other finance colleagues within the Trust andalso act as a link support person to a number of specified business units.This will involve performing routine accounting tasks and responding to dayto day queries in line with set timetables, procedures and qualitystandards.

Job responsibilities

JOBPURPOSE/SUMMARY

Thejobholder will be undertaking an apprenticeship within Leeds TeachingHospitals NHS Trust (LTHT). The training will be delivered through formaleducation both in-house and via external providers, alongside a workplacement in the Finance Team. The jobholder will be enrolled on the FinanceApprenticeship programme. It is expected that the apprentice will commit tosuccessfully complete the training programme within the contract period.

Thejobholder will assist in the production of routine financial monitoringinformation, providing support and advice to budget holders, monitors andother financial colleagues within the Trust and also act as a link supportperson to a number of specified business units. This will involve performingroutine accounting tasks and responding to day to day queries in line withset timetables, procedures and quality standards.

Thepost holder will be guided by standard operating procedures (SOPs), goodpractice, established precedents and understands what results or standardsare to be achieved. A member of the Finance Team will be generally availablefor reference and work may be checked on a sample/random basis.

PRINCIPALDUTIES & AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

Educationand Training

Toparticipate fully in the training programme for the Finance Apprenticeshipby:

Attending formal study sessions

Be willing to undertakeself-directed learning

Completing all tasks andassignments

Applying skills and knowledge totheir role within Management Accounting

Contributing to regular performanceand progress reviews

Financialreporting and accounting:

Toproduce monthly financial statements and associated information for a numberof departments to an agreed timetable and in line with agreed processes andprocedures, this will involve the following:

Correcting values in the generalledger

Completing and processing journalsfor accruals and prepayments and manual recharges, as well as correctingspend between codes

Producing reports using spreadsheets and databases

Interfaceswith budget holders/other customers:

Toact as the first point of contact for budget holders and monitors in terms ofroutine queries in respect of their financial information. This will also require the organisation ofmonthly budget holder meetings to discuss the month end financialreports. This will involve:

Setting up meetings

Preparing for the meetings

Liaising with budget holders toensure income and expenditure is correctly coded.

Costingand provision of other financial information:

Torespond to requests for the financial assessment of routine proposals,costing each element of expenditure or income and presenting the informationin a clear and concise manner

Year-endaccounting

Tocarry out year-end accounting tasks in line with year-end timetablesincluding the following:

Performing analysis on income andexpenditure accounts

Ensuring accurate accruals areincluded within the accounts

Ensuring all invoices are raised inline with the timetable

Liaising with other NHS bodies andexternal organisations to agree year end balances.

Settingbudgets

Toparticipate in the production of annual budgets, this will involve:

Preparing budget journals forupload

Governance,compliance and quality assurance:

To maintain audit trails andappropriate records

To ensure that day to day work iscarried out in line the agreed policies and procedures and quality standards.

To monitor the key risk areasrelating to own area of work, referring issues which need to be highlightedto senior staff

Othertasks

Toperform other tasks as required by more senior members of the finance team.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • 5 GCSE Grade 4-9 (old system A*-C) or equivalent, to include Maths and English.
  • Committed to complete the Finance Apprenticeship.

Experience

  • Experience of working in a team environment.
  • An appreciation of the need to follow set policies & procedures
