About East SILC
The East Specialist Inclusive Learning Centre (SILC) is a special school for learners aged 2‑19, with 470 children on roll. All learners have special learning needs and many have physical or medical difficulties. The school operates across a network of sites to deliver outreach services, partnership work with primary and secondary providers, and specialist medical support through the city‑wide Physical Difficulties and Medical Service.

Responsibilities
- Provide teaching support across the day for Level 1 learners, supporting personal, social, communication and therapeutic development.
- Address the personal needs of learners, collaborating with therapists, specialists and the wider teaching team.
- Contribute to the planning of the timetable and the distribution of learning resources.
- Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to meet the evolving needs of the school and its partnership sites.
- Participate actively in the induction programme and ongoing CPD to maintain and develop professional practice.
Qualifications & Experience
- Level 1 teaching assistant qualifications or equivalent experience in a special education setting.
- Good communication skills, a calm and cheerful demeanour, and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Willingness to learn, support teaching and learning, and adapt to a range of challenging situations.
Conditions
Permanent posts are subject to a 6‑month probationary period and will commence as soon as possible. All appointments are conditioned upon a satisfactory DBS check (enhanced) and medical clearance from the Leeds City Council Occupational Health Service. Shortlisted candidates must complete a self‑disclosure before interview.
Legal
Applicants must evidence the right to work in the UK before employment commences. Candidates without such right must consider the visa sponsorship requirements for the Skilled Worker route, noting the salary threshold of £41,700 per annum. We are not a Leeds City Council vacancy; applications must follow the advertised process.
