An exciting opportunity has arisen within our Men’s Rugby League high performance team.
This position will lead in the late-stage return‑to‑play area of our physical development program.
As well as aide in and lead aspects of the development and delivery of our physical preparation program in order to maximise player availability, development, and performance.
The successful candidate will undertake and aid in the planning and delivery of the men’s S&C program in coordination with the Head of S&C.
Building and delivering individual S+C programs for our first team players, and operating within a multi‑disciplinary support team the successful candidate will play an important role in the continued athletic development of our first team players.
Responsibilities
- Planning and delivery of specific strength, power, and re‑conditioning training for our injured, and returning to play first team squad members.
- Work effectively in collaboration with the medical and coaching staff to plan and deliver criteria‑based return to training programmes and schedules for our injured players.
- Develop and implement strength and power programs for first‑team players in coordination with the head S&C coach.
- Assist in the planning and delivery of speed and conditioning training and programming.
- Aid in the physical testing and profiling of our first team playing group, translating findings into targeted interventions.
- Lead in the delivery of on‑field physical preparation and warm up drills for first team training sessions.
- Lead in the delivery of occasional reserves team training sessions, including gym based and field‑based delivery.
- Attend training sessions and matches in a variety of locations as required, which include occasional junior training & matches.
- Attend match days and training of players as required throughout the contracted period.
- Maintain good working relationships with key personnel, colleagues and players as well as outside organisations in order to support and promote the Rhinos brand.
- Any other duties which may be reasonably required by Leeds Rhinos RLFC.
- Required qualifications, skills & experience
- Minimum of a BSc or equivalent in Sport Science and/or Strength and Conditioning.
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience working in elite professional rugby, leading and delivering pitch and gym‑based sessions (candidates without may still be considered based on experience).
- Knowledge around the physical, psychological, technical, and tactical demands associated with rugby league.
- Knowledge of Super League and the format of professional rugby league.
- Demonstrate a proven technical ability in a gym‑based environment to a high applied professional standard.
- Experience in, and comfortable with handling and interpreting sport science data, specifically GPS data and equipment.
- Established coaching and programming of general and specific strength and power training, as well rugby specific conditioning.
- Strong communication, motivation, and listening skills.
- Show a strong ability to adapt to acute changes in environment and situation in the case of physical preparation.
