Working pattern: Monday to Friday on a two week rota. Week 1: 9am – 5pm; Week 2: 10am – 6pm.

About The Role
As our Planned Preventative Maintenance Assistant, you’ll play a key role in the supply of equipment to support daily living tasks and independence. This is achieved by returning equipment from people’s homes when no longer required and processing it for recycling or reissue. You will work closely with the warehouse and decontamination staff to identify equipment which can be recycled and to maintain minimum stock levels.
The Planned Preventative Maintenance team carries out repairs, servicing and inspections in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions, guidance from Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) and legal requirements under Health and Safety at Work Act and related legislation. You will undertake repairs, maintenance and inspection checks to non-mechanical, basic equipment such as slings, mobility aids, bath stools, etc. within the warehouse environment.
The role supports Leeds Community Equipment team to help people live safe, independent and fulfilling lives, supporting health and social care statutory responsibilities. The service aims to prevent hospital admissions, enable rapid discharge, and prevent premature care placements.
The service operates 7 days a week and handles the delivery, ordering, maintenance, service and repair of community equipment following professional assessment. It also collects and refurbishes equipment for reissue and supports equipment recycling for Adults and Children.

Job Description
Job purpose Leeds City Council is the lead provider for Leeds Community Equipment Service. The staff working within the service are a mix of Leeds City Council and Leeds Community Healthcare employees.
Leeds Community Equipment Service’s role is to provide daily living and nursing equipment for people to use in their own home. Once the person has no further use for the equipment it is returned/collected, cleaned, refurbished and then reissued. New equipment is also purchased.
The Planned Preventative Maintenance team will carry out repairs, servicing and inspections in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions, MHRA guidance and legal requirements under Health and Safety at Work Act and associated legislation.
The Planned Preventative Maintenance Assistant will undertake repairs, maintenance and inspections checks to non-mechanical, basic equipment such as slings, mobility aids, bath stools, etc. within the warehouse environment.
Responsibilities
- Test, service and repair returned equipment as required
- Arrange repairs and returns with manufacturers and suppliers
- Check and, if required, record serial numbers onto stock system
- Input stock details into the stock system
- Use computerised systems to record, collate and retain relevant details of assembling, checking and repairing equipment and ensure equipment status is tracked electronically
- Label equipment and add service dates
- Assemble equipment to manufacturer’s instructions and clinical assessor’s instructions to meet customer requirements
- Complete final inspection and quality check of equipment before items are picked for delivery
- Maintain appropriate records for audit purposes
- Ensure equipment is moved and stored safely within the store
- Report faults/repairs to the Planned Preventative Maintenance Officer
- Carry out duties independently without routine supervision, but with someone generally available for reference
- Comply with Health and Safety duties and Leeds City Council policies
- Ensure all Local Operational Procedures are adhered to
- Communicate effectively with colleagues both face to face and on the telephone
- Work in a team with both LCC and LCH colleagues
Qualifications
Essential requirements It is essential that the candidate can demonstrate the following criteria for the post. Candidates will only be shortlisted for interview if they meet all the essential requirements.
- Evidence of numerical and literacy skills e.g. GCSE pass at Grade C or above in English and Mathematics or equivalent
Skills Required
- Ability to work unsupervised for part of shift and to organize and plan to meet deadlines
- Communication skills; written and verbal

- Able to accurately enter/retrieve data information from information systems
