As a CCTV Operator you will:
- Monitor public space CCTV
- Record and log incidents observed on CCTV
- Operate the Councils City Centre Vehicle Access Scheme
- Monitor alarm activations and deploy Officers to attend alarms
- Engage with Police and other partners to prevent and detect crime
Responsibilities:
- Work in a 24/7, 7 day a week control room, on a 4 days on / 4 days off pattern, alternating between day and night shifts.
- Operate CCTV, the City Centre Vehicle Access Scheme and the intruder/fire monitoring alarm receiving centre, delivering services to agreed performance standards while maintaining professional standards and value.
- Support Leedswatch Services and contribute to the vision of a positive and inclusive working environment that supports the Safer Leeds ambition for safety.
- Work with the Police and other agencies to provide an appropriate response to incidents, using a range of communication tools (radios, telephone, intercom).
- Monitor, evaluate, and respond to incidents by reviewing camera images and monitoring radio systems to assist in the effective deployment of Police resources.
- Monitor Intruder, Fire, Panic and Third Party Alarms from the Alarm Response Centre and deploy Officers as required.
- Maintain records and evidential material in a clear and accurate format; produce and maintain detailed records that may be used in Court; attend Court if required to give evidence.
- Carry out duties in accordance with CCTV procedures, codes of practice and relevant legislation to ensure security, integrity, accuracy and confidentiality of information.
- Check equipment functioning and report faults; ensure continuous monitoring and effective alarm response.
- Be responsible for working to and implementing the Leedswatch Code of Practice and CCTV Strategy; ensure monitoring of people, vehicles and buildings within CCTV coverage with strict confidentiality.
- Use own initiative and judgement to provide outcomes and solutions for customers/partners from a range of options.
- Flexible and adaptable to change to assist other services as required commensurate to grade.
- Participate in appraisal, training and development activities; maintain up-to-date knowledge and skills.
- Collaborate with colleagues and know when to seek help and advice.
- Attend relevant meetings, training days/events as requested to contribute to the service ethos and aims.
- Be aware of and comply with Leeds City Council policies and procedures (e.g., child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality, data protection) and report concerns appropriately.
- Promote equality and anti-discrimination; uphold and promote the Council values, standards and equality policies.
- Recognise and challenge incidents of racism, harassment, or discrimination and ensure compliance with related policies.
- The duties are not exhaustive and may include other duties within the spirit of the post.
- The role may require working within the Council’s flexibility protocol.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Able to keep accurate records; able to liaise professionally with emergency services and other Agencies.
- Ability to communicate effectively by telephone and over radio with a wide variety of people in a polite and tactful manner; able to communicate at all levels.
- Able to work in a team or on own initiative; able to work with minimal supervision; able to evaluate incidents and make instantaneous decisions on required action.
- Understanding of confidentiality and the Data Protection Act; good organisational and interpersonal skills.
- Able to work flexibly across different work locations and areas as appropriate.
- Carry out duties with regard to health and safety policies; maintain equipment, stationery and clothing.
- Experience of working with a range of computer packages.
- Commitment to continuous improvement; willingness to participate in training and development; understanding and embracing council values, behaviours and codes of conduct.
