About The Role
Please note, this is a permanent, full-time reduced year contract (37 weeks). Leeds City College is seeking a Teaching Assistant to support adult learners where English is their second language (ESOL) or students taking English / Maths. The working pattern is 37 academic weeks, 37 hours per week, so would fit well with someone who might have childcare responsibilities and not be available during the Leeds’ school holiday periods. Working up to two evenings per week may be required. Working hours are negotiable for successful candidates. The ESOL department at Leeds City College is a Grade 1 department. Our Adult provision was graded as Outstanding by Ofsted in May 2022 and Feb 2025.
What You Will Do
- Work with teachers to support individuals who have additional learning support needs.
- Identify ALS students and create an assessment plan to support them.
- Develop the essential knowledge and understanding to support ESOL learners.
- Support students to achieve their individual SMART learning targets.
- Monitor students to develop their skills to enable progression.
About You
You should hold a L2 or L3 teaching assistant qualification, or be working towards this qualification. You should have a good standard of spoken and written English. You may have some experience supporting second language learners in Further Education. You may have some experience working in EFL.
