Leeds City College is recruiting for a Teacher in Graphic Design to join our Visual Arts team based at the Quarry Hill campus. You will be a graphic design specialist with the ability to deliver our BTEC courses within the Visual Arts department. The Visual Arts department at Leeds City College is leading the way across the West Yorkshire region by offering a wide provision of industry‑led courses, including BTEC and Access to HE which specifically prepares the next generation of creatives for university and/or working in the creative industries.
What you will do:
- Design and deliver innovative, industry‑aligned lessons, effectively utilising digital and traditional learning resources.
- Implement robust assessment strategies to provide constructive feedback that drives student achievement and high‑quality outcomes.
- Monitor learner progress through systematic target setting and data‑driven tracking to ensure consistent development.
- Cultivate a creative and inspiring environment that motivates learners to exceed their goals and refine their professional skills.
- Maintain current subject expertise, proactively integrating contemporary industry trends and evidence‑based pedagogical practices.
- Uphold academic quality by participating in internal verification, moderation, and continuous improvement processes.

- Support departmental growth through active involvement in course promotion, student recruitment, and induction initiatives.
About you:
- Proven experience of Graphic Design agency work in the creative industry with a strong command of layout design, typography, graphic illustration, image manipulation, marketing and advertising.
- Additional skills could include motion graphics, web/app design, 3D design, packaging, film, photography and/or traditional art skills.
- Specialist technical skills, including advanced knowledge of key Adobe Creative Cloud software (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) within an Apple Macintosh environment.
- Any other relevant specialist software skills such as Autodesk Fusion, Figma, Adobe After Effects, Premiere Pro are desirable.
- A genuine passion for graphic design and education, with an enthusiastic and proactive approach to motivating and inspiring students to foster creativity within the classroom to enable progression.
- A degree in relevant subject area, as well as a recognised teaching qualification with demonstrable experience in Further Education, specialising in Visual Arts (Levels 2 and 3).
- A commitment to creating innovative, industry‑focused approaches to curriculum design and delivery.
- Up‑to‑date knowledge of contemporary trends across Graphic Design, moving image, and photography.
- Proven ability to build strong student/teacher relationships, motivating learners effectively to ensure high levels of retention, achievement, and attendance.
- Solid understanding of formative and summative assessment practices and effective student progress tracking.
- Excellent planning and organisational skills, with the ability to contribute productive, creative insight into course development and the wider Visual Arts department.
