Leeds City College is recruiting a Teacher of ESOL to join our team at North Street, working with full‑time 16‑19 year old students. This role sits within the Adult, Community & ESOL department.

What We Are Looking For

  • Ability to lead and facilitate group activities, fostering positive group dynamics, managing conflict, and promoting teamwork, communication and problem‑solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build rapport, motivate, and empower young ESOL learners at very low language levels.
  • Empathy and understanding for the unique challenges faced by asylum seekers, children looked after and those who are care‑experienced.
  • Experience working with diverse groups of young people, promoting inclusion and sensitivity to individual backgrounds and cultures.
  • Experience working with 16‑19 year olds, particularly those facing barriers such as unemployment, under‑achievement or additional support needs.

What You Will Do

  • Plan, prepare and develop schemes of work, session plans, teaching and learning resources, and learning and assessment plans.
  • Teach across the ESOL study programme, including low‑level maths and tutorials.
  • Develop the essential knowledge and understanding to teach ESOL learners.
  • Create individual learning targets linked to learner study programmes or courses.
  • Monitor students to achieve their targets and develop their skills to enable progression.

About You

  • Hold a Level 5 teaching qualification (e.g. Cert Ed, PGCE, Delta). Celta is not recognised as a full teaching qualification in the UK, but successful applicants can be supported to complete a L5 qualification with the college.
  • Have UK ESOL‑based experience, teaching 16‑19 year old ESOL students in UK colleges.
  • Have a relevant degree in English or a related field.
