Leeds City College is seeking an experienced and passionate Programme Manager (English, Maths & Personal Development) to join the School of Travel, Food and Drink. Our department offers a diverse range of study programmes and apprenticeships for students aged 16-18 and 19+, supporting those who aspire to build successful careers in the Travel, Aviation and Hospitality industry.
In this pivotal role, you will lead and manage the English, Maths and PDBA team, ensuring high-quality delivery and a strong focus on attendance, engagement, and student success. You will also drive improvements in Personal Development, Behaviour, and Attitudes (PDBA), breaking down barriers to learning and fostering a positive, inclusive educational experience. Your leadership will be key in aligning our provision with the departmental QIP and Luminate key strategies to maximise student achievement.
Our courses range from Level 1, designed for learners with little or no prior experience, through to Level 3 programmes, which prepare students for higher education or supervisory roles within the industry. The team brings a wealth of industry expertise, skills, and knowledge, which enriches our teaching, learning, and assessment processes. As Programme Manager, you will play a vital role in ensuring our students receive an exceptional learning experience, equipping them with the skills and confidence to succeed.
What You Will Do
- Line management of the Pastoral and GCSE Maths and English team.
- Build and maintain close working relationships with our existing team to ensure a consistent and rigorous approach to PDBA.
- Lead activities to ensure effective planning, preparation & development of schemes of learning and engaging teaching & learning resources, including the development of online learning for identified courses.
- Ensure effective delivery of sessions across the curriculum using a wide range of teaching methods for identified courses within the PDBA remit.
- Cultivate and create positive relationships with learners/parents/carers to support learners to achieve their full potential.
- Provide constructive feedback to help learners improve & record learners' progress for identified courses.
- Lead and support the team with retention, achievement, success & attendance for identified courses.
- Contribute to the marketing of courses, learner IAG, & enrolment processes.
About You
- Level 5 (or above) teaching qualification and a willingness to undertake further training to enhance the requirements of the role.
- Experience in working in Further Education to enhance the learner journey and recent teaching experience within the sector.
- Experienced, knowledgeable and skilled in the key themes of the PDBA strand.
- Experienced in the delivery, tracking and monitoring of either English or Maths.
- Appetite for ensuring the department works collaboratively in meeting campus (and Luminate) PDBA targets.
- Empathic approach to identifying and meeting student needs, with problem-solving ability to ensure the learner journey is not compromised.
- Willingness and ability to be flexible towards the requirements of different staff and learner needs.
- Passion for supporting students with all aspects of TLA, safeguarding, and general well-being.
