About The Role
Up to 15 hours per week term time. The School of Popular Music & Voice wishes to appoint Part Time Lecturers across the BA Voice and BA Popular Music, to deliver voice teaching and assessing, and undertake any other work associated with relevant modules. We are looking for Vocal Practitioners who can deliver 1-1 vocal tuition to a high standard, with excellent technical knowledge, performance experience and artistic insight. We are looking for individuals with a range of different backgrounds and experience of different genres, but we particularly welcome applications from voice professionals with expertise in Popular Music and/or Musical Theatre repertoire. The teaching term follows the Conservatoire’s Undergraduate Music Academic Calendar. Note that other duties may fall outside of the term time weeks. The start date for the teaching will be w/c 21st September 2026, but with planning and preparation happening prior to this week. Please note that the total number of working hours for appointed staff depends on the individual applicants music and repertoire specialism(s) and on student enrolment.
What You Will Do
- Plan and deliver high-quality one-to-one and group teaching on the BA Voice (Performance & Pedagogy) programme, alongside specialist voice teaching through extracurricular activities where appropriate.
- Assess student performance and coursework, participate in voice assessment panels, and provide timely, constructive feedback in line with institutional guidelines.
- Support and facilitate student performances, events, and an outstanding student experience by working collaboratively with academic and professional services teams.
- Collaborate with the Academic Manager, BA Voice lecturers, and departmental colleagues to plan teaching, maintain curriculum quality, and ensure effective communication across the programme.
- Contribute to the development of the voice curriculum, departmental strategy, and the ongoing enhancement of voice provision within the Department of Popular Music and Voice.
About You
- Honours and postgraduate qualifications in a relevant discipline, with a higher education teaching qualification and expertise in vocal pedagogy through research and/or professional practice.
- Experience teaching in higher education, supported by evidence of teaching excellence and comprehensive subject knowledge.
- Current knowledge of research in vocal pedagogy and an understanding of the music industry, particularly in relation to voice.
- Excellent communication, organisational, and administrative skills, with the ability to engage, motivate, and inspire students.
- Strong collaborative skills and proficiency in using subject-specific technologies and digital tools to enhance teaching and learning.
