Leeds City College are seeking an Academic Intervention Lead with a specialism in English to join our Future Pathways Department.
This unique role offers the best of both worlds. We are seeking a passionate, versatile, and highly adaptable individual who loves leading a core subject but also craves the variety of supporting students across a whole department.

Alongside this, you will act as our cross-curriculum academic intervention specialist. You will step in to provide targeted support across all of our programmes, including Maths, vocational modules, and RARPA pathways. This ensures that every student, regardless of their course, breaks down barriers to learning and achieves their full potential. Supporting learners who all hold an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), you will have the creative freedom to turn statutory targets into life-changing academic and independence milestones.
What You Will Do- Take overall responsibility for the planning, delivery, and quality assurance of Entry Level Functional Skills English.
- Design and deliver targeted academic interventions across all departmental programmes, supporting students with Maths, vocational studies, and RARPA targets.
- Carry out robust initial and diagnostic assessments to pinpoint exactly why a student is struggling academically, creating bespoke SMART action plans to get them back on track.
- Monitor and record student growth across all interventions, writing professional, robust progress reports that directly inform statutory EHCP annual reviews.
- Undertake internal verification, standardisation, and course review processes to ensure full compliance with college quality frameworks and exam board specifications.
- You hold a recognised UK teaching qualification at Level 5 or above, such as a PGCE or Cert Ed, alongside Level 2 qualifications in English and Maths.
- You have a proven track record of successfully teaching Functional Skills English within further education or a specialist SEND setting, alongside the ability to support broader subjects like Maths and Vocational modules.
- You possess a strong working knowledge of the UK SEND Code of Practice, EHCP statutory outcomes, and the practical application of the RARPA framework for non-accredited growth.
- You can pivot your teaching styles responsively to meet the diverse communication, neurodivergent, and behavioural needs of high-needs learners in real time.
- You bring high levels of emotional intelligence, patience, and a calm demeanour under pressure, backed by the excellent communication skills needed to work with parents, tutors, and multi-agency specialists.
