About the Role

This is a Part-Time, Reduced Year role: 19 hours per week, 38 weeks per year

Keighley College are looking for a Learning Support Assistant to join their team. You will be based predominantly at one of our campuses but could be required to work across sites depending on the students\’ needs. All of our sites are within a short traveling distance from the city centre.

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will be instrumental in supporting and encouraging our students to succeed. We are looking for an individual who is highly motivated, independent, supportive, and understanding and who is willing to learn and cooperate to meet the students\\\’ needs.

Our Learning Support Assistants are an essential part of our SEND Provision. You will be working within a supportive team of around 70 professionals across the College who all have a passion for ensuring our students can achieve – no matter their background or ability. This role is perfect for anyone wanting to gain an entry-level insight into working with students who have additional high-level or SEND needs, those wanting to transition into teaching and who also want to progress through the SEND Pathway. You will have the opportunity to progress internally from this role either into our Teaching Apprenticeships, Specialist Learning Support Assistant Roles or work towards becoming a SEND Team Leader.

What You Will Do

  • Be involved in the planning, preparation and assessment of learning as part of the curriculum team
  • Providing in and out of class support to meet the identified needs of students who have high needs, both on and off site where required.
  • Assist with personal care requirements where necessary
  • May need to be involved in learners’ transport arrangements and helping students who have high needs to develop independent travel skills where needed.
  • Assisting with emergency evacuation plans and practices and supporting with all emergency evacuations.
  • Keeping accurate and timely logs and other records of progress, as required.
  • Attend annual reviews as requested and attend student meetings as required to update on progress and behaviours.
  • Any other duties as determined by the line manager

About You

  • Educated to Level 2 in Literacy and Numeracy or a commitment to achieving this within one year of appointment.
  • Experience of working within a team who support SEND or high needs students to support their learning through identifying strategies and preparing young people for adulthood.
  • Strong awareness of disability issues and equality and diversity issues.
  • Able to work effectively as a team member and be able to adapt and embrace change.
  • A willingness to be flexible and mobile as the role requires working across the college and off-site visits with learners.
