Leeds City College are seeking an ambitious, industry-focused, and dynamic Butchery Learning and Development Manager to join our outstanding Travel, Food & Drink team at Printworks Campus. This is an exciting opportunity for a highly skilled butchery professional to play a key role in shaping and developing apprenticeship and commercial provision, while driving excellence in teaching, learning, assessment, and employer engagement across the department. Working closely with the Deputy Head of School, the successful candidate will lead curriculum delivery and quality assurance, ensuring apprentices receive an exceptional learning experience both in college and within the workplace.
The role requires a strong commitment to learner achievement, attendance, progression, and retention, ensuring standards consistently meet and exceed national benchmarks and industry expectations to ensure growth. The successful postholder will bring current vocational expertise and extensive industry knowledge, supporting curriculum innovation, staff development, and continuous improvement in line with Skills England apprenticeship reforms and Department for Education (DfE) funding rule updates. They will develop strong relationships with employers, EPAOs, awarding organisations, and wider stakeholders to ensure apprenticeship provision remains responsive to industry needs and aligned to current standards. In addition, the role will provide strategic oversight of the Butchery commercial outlet, ensuring it remains fully stocked, commercially successful, seasonally innovative, and reflective of industry best practice, while showcasing apprentices’ practical skills and creativity within a professional learning environment.
What You Will Do
- Lead high-quality teaching, learning, assessment, and curriculum delivery across Butchery apprenticeship provision, ensuring outstanding apprentice engagement, achievement, and progression.
- Drive quality assurance and Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) processes, including standardisation, moderation, learning walks, and continuous improvement activities.
- Develop and maintain strong employer, EPAO, and awarding organisation relationships to support apprenticeship growth, compliance, and successful learner outcomes.
- Support curriculum innovation and staff development in line with Skills England apprenticeship reforms, Department for Education (DfE) funding rules, and current industry practice.
- Monitor apprentice progress, attendance, and achievement, ensuring timely interventions and high-quality feedback that supports learner success and employer satisfaction.
- Lead and support the Butchery team to maintain current vocational expertise through CPD, industrial updating, and aspirational pedagogical practice.
- Oversee the operation of the Butchery commercial outlet, ensuring growth, stock control, profitability, seasonal innovation, and an outstanding industry-standard learning environment.
- Promote learner progression, growth and industry engagement through competitions, events, enrichment opportunities, and strong stakeholder partnerships.
About You
- Significant industry experience within Butchery, with current occupational competence and a strong understanding of industry standards and commercial practice.
- A proven track record of leading apprenticeship delivery, engaging with employers, and building strong internal and external partnerships to support learner progression and growth in the Butchery department.
- Strong knowledge of apprenticeship standards, assessment practices, EPA requirements, Internal Quality Assurance (IQA), and Department for Education (DfE) funding rules.
- Experience of quality assurance, curriculum responsiveness, and adapting provision to meet local, regional, and national priorities, including Skills England apprenticeship reforms.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage and support staff development, ensure effective delivery, and maximise learner success and achievement.
- The ability to inspire apprentices and colleagues alike, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, continuous improvement, and aspirational teaching and learning practices.
