Keighley College are seeking 2 Apprentice Teachers to join us within the Study Programmes department. The role is designed for experienced tradespeople who want to move into teaching while continuing to develop their own professional skills. It offers a structured pathway into education, combining on-the-job teaching experience with formal teacher training and mentoring, as you work towards achieving a Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training.
In this role, you will work within a construction curriculum area, supporting learners in developing the practical skills and technical knowledge needed for successful careers in industry. You will gradually take on more responsibility for planning and delivering learning sessions, starting with supporting experienced teachers in workshops and classrooms. A key part of the role is helping learners to build confidence and competence in their trade. This includes demonstrating practical skills, supervising workshop activities, and providing clear, constructive feedback to support progress. You will also contribute to assessing learner work and maintaining accurate records of achievement in line with awarding body and organisational requirements.
Alongside teaching responsibilities, you will be completing a recognised teaching qualification for further education. You will receive ongoing mentoring, coaching, and CPD to help you develop your skills in lesson planning, classroom management, assessment, and inclusive teaching practice. This role is ideal for someone with strong industry experience who enjoys working with people and wants to progress into a long-term career in teaching and training within the trades sector. This is a fixed term role for the length of the apprenticeship - 24 months.
What You Will Do
- Plan, prepare and develop schemes of work, session plans, teaching and learning resources, learning and assessment plans.
- Deliver and assess essential knowledge and understanding to learners.
- Create individual SMART learning targets linked to learner study programme/course and track and monitor progress against these.
- Responsible for recording student progress and supporting students to achieve targets.
- Deliver a minimum of 100 teaching hours over the two-year period.
About You
- Strong industry experience.
- Enjoys working with people and wants to progress into a long-term career in teaching and training within the trades sector.
- Relevant highest level vocational qualification in teaching subject (at least at L3).
- Relevant up-to-date subject knowledge in specific subject area and up-to-date knowledge of workplace practice.
- Ability to follow direction and constructive feedback, to help support development as a teaching practitioner, applying theory to practical application in an education setting.
