This is an exciting opportunity to begin a career in the careers guidance profession by undertaking a Level 6 Careers Development qualification through a 30 month fixed term apprenticeship . Based within the central Luminate Education Group’s FE Careers Team (Careers, Work Experience & Progression), you will receive structured training and support, including guidance from an allocated careers mentor to help develop your professional practice.
In this role, you will engage with a diverse range of students through one-to-one careers guidance meetings and group activities. A key focus will be on supporting students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and those with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
This is an ideal entry-level position for individuals who are passionate about pursuing a career in careers education, information, advice and guidance (CEIAG). The role includes mandatory training for the Level 6 Diploma in Career Guidance and Development, and offers the practical experience needed to build the knowledge and professional skills required for success in the sector.
Based at Leeds City College, this apprenticeship will also provide opportunities to gain insight into further education (FE), higher education (HE), and school-based careers services, offering a broad and varied foundation for your future career.
What You Will Do
- Commit to and successfully complete the Level 6 Career Development Professional Apprenticeship, including all required training, assessments, and components necessary to achieve the full qualification.
- Support students in making informed career choices and progressing into positive destinations by delivering high-quality careers advice and education, both on campus and remotely when required, under the guidance and supervision of qualified careers adviser mentors.
- Develop awareness and understanding of the Careers Information, Advice, and Guidance (CIAG) needs of students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and those with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) through supported engagement and practical experience.
- Contribute to the development of new initiatives and innovative ways of working to meet the evolving needs of students. This includes leading or supporting awareness campaigns and establishing effective referral pathways through collaboration with external agencies and organisations.
- Support the development of Careers Education, Information, Advice, and Guidance (CEIAG) resources for curriculum and tutorial teams, and assist in embedding these resources within curriculum delivery and tutorial programmes.
About You
- Hold a previous degree
- Have achieved GCSE English and Maths at Grade C / Level 4 or above, or possess an equivalent qualification
- Be enthusiastic about careers education and supporting learners.
- Be well organised and motivated.
- Have the academic ability and commitment to successfully complete a Level 6 apprenticeship.
- Have excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive and professional relationships with a diverse range of individuals.
- Be a non-judgemental and empathetic listener, able to offer support sensitively and appropriately.
- Be digitally literate, with confidence in using a range of digital tools and platforms to support effective working and communication.
