Aviation Security Officer – Part Time (Leeds Bradford Airport)

Leeds Bradford Airport is one of the UK’s fastest-growing regional airports, and we’re committed to employing high-quality people who share our ambition and dedication to excellent customer service. In this vital frontline role, you’ll embody our values to Be the Best, Work as One Team and Do the Right Thing as we continue to grow and prepare for our brand-new security area opening in summer 2026.

What Your Day-to-Day Will Feel Like

In this role, you’ll be at the heart of the airport experience, helping passengers begin their journeys safely and confidently. You’ll work within a supportive, close-knit team who look out for one another and take pride in delivering a smooth, welcoming security process. This is not a typical security officer role – while keeping our passengers and airport secure is essential, delivering an exceptional customer experience is equally important. You’ll play a key part in creating a calm, friendly and efficient environment, helping passengers feel informed, reassured, and well looked after as they move through security.

Your shift pattern follows a steady rhythm of 4 days on, 4 days off, working 21 hours per week. As part of our 24‑hour operation, you’ll rotate between early shifts from around 3am and later shifts from around 12pm; start times will vary, so some flexibility is needed to support peak passenger flows.

What’s in it for You

  • Salary: £13 per hour / £14,200.22 per year (Full-Time Equivalent £27,112.80)
  • Hours & Shift Pattern: Part-time, 21 hours per week; rotating 4 days on, 4 days off with day and night shifts for a predictable work-life balance.
  • Training: Full, paid training programme to set you up for success
  • Career Progression: Opportunities to grow within aviation security and the wider airport.
  • Modern Facility & Equipment: Hands‑on experience in the brand-new security area opening summer 2026, using state-of-the-art 3D screening technology.

Training

To prepare you for taking on the role, you will undergo a four-week training programme. Your training will include full classroom training with industry-leading trainers, ensuring you are equipped with all of the knowledge to perform the role of an Aviation Security Officer. You will then have the opportunity to put this knowledge into practice with a first‑class on‑the‑job training programme to build your skills in real-life situations, but in the safety of a training environment.

The first 4 weeks of your training will mean you will need to work full-time hours during daytime office hours Monday – Friday, which you will be paid accordingly. In order to be offered this role, you must be able to commit to fulfilling these full-time training requirements. Once you have completed your training, you will then move on to the rostered 4 on 4 off part-time shift pattern. The final part of your training will see you shadowing our highly skilled existing security officers, enabling you to perfect your skills ready to face our customer base.

Mandatory Requirements for this Role

  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken; additional languages desirable but not essential
  • Full colour vision and physically able to perform duties (sitting, standing, bending, walking)
  • Customer Service Experience
  • Minimum age 18 due to security clearance requirements
  • Ability to pass Criminal Record Check, Counter Terrorism Check, and vetting requirements.
  • Must have lived in the UK for at least 5 years with a 5-year work or education history.
