We are seeking to appoint a skilled and experienced Learning Support Specialist to join our 3D Workshop team, supporting film set construction activity across the Leeds School of Arts. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic and creative environment, supporting students in the design, construction, and maintenance of film sets and scenic elements. Working closely with academic staff and technical colleagues, you will play a key role in enabling high‑quality practical learning and production outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide hands‑on technical support to students and staff in the construction, assembly, and maintenance of film and/or theatre sets.
  • Deliver demonstrations and inductions on set construction techniques, materials, and the safe use of tools and machinery.
  • Support teaching, project work, and production activity within workshop and studio environments.
  • Maintain workshop spaces, equipment, and materials to a high standard, including stock control and ordering where required.
  • Ensure all activities are carried out in line with Health & Safety requirements, including COSHH, PUWER, and other relevant regulations.
  • Supervise students working in workshop environments to promote safe and effective working practices.

What We’re Looking For

  • Demonstrable experience in scenic set construction, ideally within film and/or theatre production.
  • Practical understanding of set design processes and construction techniques.
  • Working knowledge of on‑set and location filming environments and practices.
  • Experience of operating within a workshop environment, including the safe use, maintenance, and oversight of machinery and tools.
  • Sound understanding of Health & Safety protocols, including COSHH, PUWER, and safe systems of work.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to support and guide students of varying experience levels.

Working as Part of the 3D Workshop Team

  • Occasionally support the wider 3D Workshop team across other specialist areas and projects.
  • Contribute to the smooth running of the workshop through a flexible, team‑based approach.
  • Share knowledge and good practice with colleagues to enhance the overall service provision.
