Red Kite View is recruiting! We are looking for an enthusiastic, hard-working band 5 staff nurse to join our team to deliver high-quality care to children and young people’s mental health services (CYPMHS). Red Kite View is a young people’s mental health inpatient unit. The service is part of Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and is based in Armley, less than 3 miles from Leeds City Centre. It provides inpatient care and support to families and young people from across West Yorkshire.
Red Kite View will allow you to work in a spacious, therapeutic environment that has been designed in consultation with staff and young people using the current services. The service opened in January 2022 and offers a welcoming, therapeutic environment to support young people aged from 13 up to 18 years of age who need the support of an inpatient service in their journey to recovery.
The team works with a huge range of other services across West Yorkshire supporting young peoples’ mental health including the NHS, local authorities and third sector providers. Please note there is an occupational requirement for the post holder to have experience & therefore we cannot consider newly qualified, or those requiring a preceptorship for this position.
Main duties of the job: The service has 22 beds (16 in Skylark Ward GAU and 6 in Lapwing Ward PICU) and is staffed by a dedicated multi-disciplinary team including nurses, psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, and a wide range of allied health professionals and non-clinical support staff. This job advert is for the General Adolescent Unit (GAU) – Skylark Ward. The service team works closely with the young person’s CYPMHS Community team during their stay at Red Kite View.
Most young people will come to Skylark Ward as informal patients. Some young people may need to be admitted under the Mental Health Act (1983) or subject to other court orders. Whatever the situation of the young person they will be offered assessment, treatment and support in one of our two wards. Both wards offer light, modern facilities including spacious, comfortable and private en-suite bedrooms.

You will have great interpersonal skills and be able to establish a professional working relationship with young people and families. You will be cool in a crisis; it's a busy clinical area and we manage lots of risk-taking behavior including deliberate self-harm and management of violence and aggression. It is a demanding yet rewarding role.
You will be keen to develop, and be able to support junior staff and learners, and be supported to offer clinical supervision as well as positive role modelling.
