Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a substantive band 6 Dietitian to join the LYPFT Learning Disability (LD) Service. We are looking for a dynamic Dietitian, keen to work with learning disabled adults who require specialist health support due to complex physical, sensory, communication and behavioral impairments. We welcome applications from suitably experienced dietitians, including band 5s who are ready to step up to band 6 or existing band 6s seeking a new clinical area. The successful candidate will receive support from the Clinical Lead Dietitian and work alongside experienced Dietetic Associate Practitioners. The post is based within the East North East team of our Community Learning Disability Teams (CLDT) and involves working in a diverse MDT including Dietitians, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Nurses, Psychologists, Psychiatrists and Support Workers.

There is a band 7 Clinical Lead, Band 6 and Dietetic Associate Practitioners in the LD dietetic team. The service runs Monday to Friday, 9am–5pm, with hybrid and flexible working and access to remote technology (phones and laptops).

Responsibilities

  • Manage your own caseload with a range of dietetic needs including weight management, diabetes, nutrition support and enteral feeding.
  • Collaborate with health and social care partners, including private and voluntary sectors and adult social care.
  • Deliver training and education sessions for service users, carers, families and other healthcare professionals.
  • Contribute to service development within the team and Trust.
  • Work as a member of a multi-disciplinary CLDT offering specialist dietary interventions.
  • Plan, justify and deliver specialised dietary advice to service users and their families/carers for LD services.
  • Plan, manage and prioritise complex clinical workload to ensure efficiency in all areas.
  • Coordinate and deliver nutrition/dietetic training for professional and support staff.
  • Maintain liaison with dietetic, medical, nursing, allied health professionals, catering, clerical and other relevant staff.
  • Provide supervision to Dietetic Associate Practitioners and support student learning and placements.

Qualifications / Requirements

  • Substantive Band 6 Dietitian or experienced Band 5 with readiness for Step Up to Band 6 or existing Band 6 seeking a new clinical area.
  • Willingness to work with learning disabled adults requiring complex health support due to physical, sensory, communication and behavioral impairments.
  • Evidence of working within a multidisciplinary team and ability to develop as part of a dynamic dietetic service.
  • Driver with access to a vehicle for community visits and ability to lift and carry weighing scales in and out of a vehicle.

The Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (LYPFT) is the main provider of Mental Health and Learning Disability services in Leeds, with specialist inpatient services in York and other specialised services. It is a teaching trust with links to local universities, supporting research and development activities.
